Would you post offers for sale if we had a forum room for it?

I don't mind creating a forum room (hidden from search engines for privacy) where members can post offers, but I don't want to do it if it's going to be a ghost town.

If this room was to come about, would it be possible to sell ALL LEGAL items (for your location), or will there be a limitation/prohibition on certain items?
My feelings of course are for the unrestricted marketplace.
If so i have items to both sell and items i am looking to purchase, or more importantly, BARTER for, unless someone wants to spend PMs now.

thanks for the attention.

I'm all for whatever fits within the context of the forum (metals, BSTS gear, etc.). I would not want a member to member marketplace forum to become a general flea market competing with ebay / craigslist. That doesn't really fit with the purpose of this site.

Wink

Sell if you want, I'll buy... but you won't catch me selling yet though.

Buyin and sellin's what it's all about sometimes - especially in barter form. Just look for cases where both parties benefit, they always exist as people re-balance things.

I voted for "heck yeah" since I would be willing to by and sell with members here, but you won't catch me selling anything if I can help it!

It seems to be assumed that any selling would be PM's. I'm not sure that was the intent here. For example, one of the things I have for sale would be a very nice geiger counter...or perhaps some solar gear.

Yeah, for some things, I wouldn't want any web (or other) exposure either.

But for a lot of other things, who cares? I could be wrong, but the private messages on boards seem more secure to me than regular email (your ISP isn't storing them, just the board). Some boards can be setup with https, and when the user deletes them, they are gone...not perfect, but pretty good as these things go, nowadays.

FWIW, this site is hosted on a dedicated, managed server. It hosts my sites and no one elses. The web host is a small enough company that I negotiated directly with the owner for the server. Probably only 2 or 3 people at the web hosting company with access to the server. Nothing is perfect, but I feel very confident in the database security for the site.

Way to go PMBug - my own boards are the same, and I've been looking into encryption for PMs there as we sometimes work with things you'd not want to be real public. Maybe legal-now, but kind of "gray" if someone had an ax to grind later. Don't have it yet, but I'm working on it.
