Exclamation Vancouver: The city that had too much money

"Vancouver was the first place to experience the tidal wave of Chinese cash. Now the city is leading efforts to stop it."

Similar things went on/still going on with the oil boom here as well as several Indian casinos. Any time you have an infusion of cash & outsiders, there's usually going to be problems. Where there's money crime will follow, sometimes it's the crime bringing in the money to begin with. Think about Florida in the late 70's & 80's Lots of money came flowing in along with lots of crime, very violent crime too.

I'm always amazed at the ingenuity of people who figure out ways to "beat the system". Of course, the system continues to adapt, but those wheels turn slowly.

I was there several times in the late eighties while working as a fitter on cruise ships and sailing the in side passage. The city was incredibly friendly, clean and fun. It was a bit spendy, but other than that, a great place to lay over. Maybe it has changed for the worse since then, but my times there were great. We used it as a launch point to go up to Whistler Blackcomb and go skiing and tubing on the glaciers. Good times!
