Walmart CEO Doug McMillon told CNBC Tuesday that theft is "higher than what it has historically been." Walmart is just one of several top retailers reporting concerning levels of retail theft.

The National Retail Federation in September reported the total losses from shrink—a retailer term for theft and other inventory loss—reached $94.5 billion in 2021. Retail crime incidents rose an average of 26.5 percent last year, Fox Business reports. Retailers like Walmart, Target, and Rite Aid note particular problems in storefronts in urban locations,

A recent survey of small business owners across the country showed that 54 percent of them experienced an increase in shoplifting last year, much of it stemming from organized crime.

During an interview on the WCUB Breakfast Club, Neil Bradley, Executive Vice president, and Chief Policy Officer with the national Chamber of Commerce told us, “What they told us is 56 percent say they’ve been a victim of this in the past year and a majority say it’s getting worse. Our good friends at the National Retail Federation tried to put a dollar amount on it. What they found was that for every billion dollars in retail sales $700,000 was lost to theft. That number is up dramatically in the last 5 years.”

Think, the unraveling of the Western Roman Empire.

No doubt, many similar scenes played out, especially as Gaul and Iberia were overrun with the Mohammedans.

I wonder if, after the collapse, like-minded people will drift to separate corners? Something similar happened in Europe...whether by migration or natural selection, I don't know. But the stolid Swedes were not the same as the hot-tempered Spaniards; or the dissipated Francs, or the still-pleasure-driven Italians and their baleful cousins in Sicily.

What we have right now, all over the West, is just NOT...SUSTAINABLE. It's going to collapse our governments, and that is what the motherWEFfers...THINK...they want. They'll know better later, but the die are cast.

Will out of it, come a new regional set of divisions, based on innate behavioral tendencies? I sure hope so.
