Chinese monastery destroys ancient wall paintings by restoring them to make them look like garish Disney cartoons
Original Qing Dynasty Buddhist artworks created 270 years ago
A proper restoration would have cost £408,000
Instead they were simply painted over with scenes from Taoist myths
Two tourist board employees have been fired

what a hysterical blunder!!!

The ignorance of a few takes away the joy for many. We see this all over now, with the islamis5ts in Egypt pledging to destroy the Great Pyramids, the Sphinx and many other artifacts, claiming they are haram and must be destroyed or Allah will be displeased.

These seventh century barbarians need to be erased from the face of the earth.

I am not so sure this one was of malice.

The arts people- probably looked in books or online- and to them it made perfect sense.
