Just another rant

Well, a good friend just mailed me "what about what's going on in Ukraine" and I just went off (we normally talk about computer stuff). I thought it might be worth sharing as a rant here. So here's my reply to that:

Yeah, I've been kind of watching that one. Looks like horrible human stupidity (again, sigh). Did I say "again"? Gheesh, the fallout of deficit spending strikes again and again, you can only pull the future so far forward, financial engineering or not. The pertinent question is how far are these fools at the top going to push things. It's like we need some older, cooler heads from the cold war back running things - at least they understood MAD, even if they were too dumb to realize the demographic time bomb was already falling on us.

The one thing you can like about Putin is he makes O like like a spoiled female child demanding a prize for bringing checkers to a chess master game. And that's all. He's one nasty, narcissistic motherfucker - but very good at it. And now he's playing the star treck poker - fizzbin (obscure but if you get it, you'll get it). Bluffing with tons at stake - worse than Bond's Casino Royale. They're all crazy out of their minds - you can smell crazy on this, their minds are like bags of cats.

The ruble is crashing. The "hzygobbledygook whatever they call it in Ukraine" is crashing. yuan is crashing, yen is crashing, and the banks in Ukraine are closing and keeping the depositors money that they don't have anyway. As they pointed out on ZH, the spoils system (where you bribe underlings to keep the house of cards up) is breaking down - periphery and developing countries first, but the real tragedy is that the developed countries, which used to carry the rest - stopped. Out of necessity. No capex, stock buybacks instead. No hiring - because no demand because no hiring, so no need for capex since there's no one needed to run the new machines, so stock buybacks and unsupportable dividends. In fact, the biggest wealth transfer to the already-wealthy in history is going on, and that's not only in absolute (adjusted) value, but in percentages too.

Human behaviour compiler::Loop detected, non-halting program without modifications, stack overflow in recursion and floating point, out of memory, which are being fought, soon with more blood. Double goto fail detected.

This shit ain't what the world needs just now. And it's not the only thing. When they want you to look here, be sure and keep looking over there for where the real "magic" is happening - that pipeline the Saudis and Qatar want to run through Syria to compete with Russia to sell energy to Yurp (largely what this is really all about, with a dash of petrodollar in there, or more than a dash - and 3++ bill documented money paid by Saudi and Qatar for the "syrian rebels" on top of what we've contributed there - follow the money and it's all pretty obvious)...those islands the Chinee want from the Japs...Expect some action that this is a cover for, along with it getting pretty real for "just a cover".

Anytime you create a large group who feels "anything would be better than this" which essentially is what the world has managed to do - expect bad things to happen. We're old and wise enough to know the new boss is gonna be just like the old boss, and a sucker still won't get an even break, but hope can be a dangerous weapon too...

Why don't we just roll out the guillotines for all the bankers (oops, I meant "financial engineers"), burn the bad paper that caused all this, and just get back to living right?

Yup, more petrowars.

I'm begining to think that this was a bit of a Russian flase flag, or at least they took advantage of it as such. It has been their MO for a long time, and is even in their constitution (last I knew), that Russia is obligated to protect Russians even outside of Russia. Russian has in the past moved people (voluntarily and involuntarily) into areas it wants to control, handed out passports to natives that want them, and then use the excuse that it is protecting Russian citizens in order to take control (or at least have a lot of say).

Currently Russia has several gas lines that go through western Ukraine, Belarus, and a line through Turkistan. They are proposing a north line going under the Baltic to Germany and a south line going under the Black Sea to Bulgaria, passing just south of Crimea and the key port of Sevastopol.

With the west/gulf states working on a pipeline through Syria to Turkistan (and then to Yurp), securing the area of the proposed South Line is crucial. This is a fight over who gets to sell gas to Yurp for the next century or so, and gain the massive wealth and political power that comes with it.

There a plenty of folks in the western Ukraine that legitemately hate Russia and want to be done with them, and are also wanting on the EU gravey train. Just compare Ukraine to Poland, who both left the USSR in similarly poor condition. Polish per capita GDP is about 3x of the Ukrainians, so combine that with a generations old hatred of Russia and it makes sense that many in the west see greener grass on Yurp's side of the fence.

It just seems really weird to me the the ousted Ukrainian gov't (the PM is in Moscow now, lol) essentially let the rioters take over the place before they even began to shoot. The rioters had makeshift weapons mostly of sticks, bricks, and molotovs - any security force could have put them down fast if they really wanted. It goes without saying what would happen if a similarly equiped group tried that somewhere else.

So, maybe Putin took advantage of actual protests from the westerners, cut a deal with the Ukrainian officials, and then stoked the flames enough to have an excuse to take action; all the while letting the west look bad for stoking another "democratic student revolt" (which has been our MO for a long time). The alternatives seem to be that the protests would have not amounted to much in the long run, or they would have ended up with a pro-western state right in the middle of Russia's neighborhood.

Frankly, the Cold War never died, it just changed phases. The Anglo-Americans, Russians, and Chinese are still sizing each other up and shuffling their pawns and rooks across the board in preparation for the finale.

The Russians have Kasparov, the Chinese Sun Tzu, and we have...

Well, I just did get a book offer today, but perhaps not for this kind of topic...I know I'd buy a book ancona wrote, myself, but since it's free here...WTF, I don't need to yet.
Today has been one of the nuttiest days of my life. Early last fall, some guys from Vice/Motherboard (online magazine) came to shoot video of my lab, me, and so on. They took about 20-30 hours of video and edited to their taste - they went a little heavy on the gun stuff, being Swedish and Norwegian, it's all new and exciting to them, but I think on the whole, they did a good job.
Since this video came out at 4 pm yesterday, I've conservatively gotten > 4000 emails and messages, two offers to do TV shows, and one to write a book...funny, I wasn't getting all this attention a couple days ago..I'm just the same guy, you know?
is the article and vid, the vid alone is here:

I need a new finger for the delete key now. Gheesh, that hit like a tsunami.

I was wondering what a guy who has everything could possibly want, and after seeing the video I am thinking maid service.

All kidding aside, congratulations on your expanding fan club. If you can get that fusion experiment to work the world will be knocking on your door. I sincerely hope you succeed. It would be a dream come true for many of us.

That's awesome, DC!

The vid picked up a few thousand more hits just in the minutes I spent reading the comments.

Yeah, a maid would be real nice. It's definitely an issue. A lab assistant would be nice too, but I'm only making enough dough to feed me, and in the middle of a contested divorce just now. Lots of balls in the air. Thanks for all the kind words guys - it's been crazy-hectic - even penn made me laugh at a time I needed it.

The amount of attention this got is truly crazy - it's not the first video of this type to get online, either. I know Vice did a heck of a job on it, but gheez, it's just me, guys.

I kind of doubt, that despite all these offers of TV and books that it makes me any real money, it's just hassle at this point. If it does, well, I get my maid and assistant.
But being on TV takes time, and so does writing books, and it's my most precious resource (I ain't getting any younger), so even if there's bucks, I think I'd rather just keep on slugging it out in the lab, just in case I might finally make it. We've got something new and cool to try that theory says gets us there - we'll just have to check and find out - takes time - I have all the components already. I'll have to trade off any offer with whether a good lab guy would make it faster enough that I had spare time to make the extra money to pay him/her.

I read about this yesterday at The Mail On-line, a British tabloid. Those guys don't miss anything.

Hey DC, great video. I agree that you have a pretty cool life right now. Keep it simple and try not to let things get too complicated over there with TV and media and such.

I have been in a research lab for the past 25+ years but it has become a rat race. The work is very cool, but way too much stress; always a time crunch going on. Looking forward to the future where I can peck away casually at my piddling list which has now grown to about a million fun projects lined up an waiting....

Ok I will offer a few thoughts on Fusors motherboard video.

For all of us here its totally cool and for many of us Fusor has a dream situation but what I also saw was the painting of a free thinking man who does not fit in with society in general, someone who could be dangerous ..... an urban terrorist.

Ok we have a pretty good idea where Fusors principles sit and I would consider it a priviledge to share his neighbourhood. But having shared with the world his aspirations of de-mistifying things so we can assemble expensive products cheaply and a claim to have worked out a way to produce an energy surplus with a small fusion reactor, is there not a possible backlash ?

For those who might wish Fusor some harm, it seems to make their task easier.

Hopefully Fusor is, as ever, ahead of me in his thinking.
if it cant be done with a digger .... it cant be done

I have a feeling if the powers that be thought he was getting real close, or close enough for govt. work, there would be a suspicious, tragic fire destroying all the work, not to mention some sort of grisly death initially labeled as either suicide or natural causes. Watch your six! (and your 12, 3, 9, 1... ah just keep your head on a swivel)

Thanks all. My guess is that the fact that everything I do is in public, and copied all over that it will reduce quite a bit the ratio of reward/risk for anyone wanting to take me out. I'm probably still under their radar anyway, and somewhat of a hard target as is. I already keep my head on a swivel.

When the DEA came here to "take me down" (by mistake, I was innocent) I spotted their pro sniper in only a few seconds...helps to know every leaf, branch, tree, rock and blade of grass....

When their bottom lines get hit, that's when TSHTF, I suppose, but that's not happening now, and at least most of them know about "the Streisand effect". There are half a thousand (that I know of) who read everything I write on the topic and make their own copies...that's a lotta guys to take out if someone really wanted to stop what's going on.

Thanks for the concern, me here living in an entire county of potential "terrorists" by the DHS definitions, it seems pretty peaceful - except for when we make noise for entertainment purposes.

But should I die from 157 self-inflicted stab wounds or a multiple tap nail gun - you'll know I didn't do that, right? Like I said, I'm a happy guy.
