Am I happy with my horde? Kinda. Wish I had moar.

Am I happy how it's done, vis-a-vis "the coin of the realm"? Absolutely.

Happy I did it? That's the understatement of a generation.

BUT...am I happy it's come to this? ABSOLUTELY-FRIKKIN-NOT. I look at old videos from NASS and Periscope on the Tube of Ewww...of happy people cooking out, or seeing clean historical sites, or just walking the streets in cities big or small...parking their cars in front of A&Ps and Sears-Roebuck stores, NOT worried that the car will be stolen or the kids snatched...

No, I'm not happy about WHY the price has launched. Any more than, sitting in a lifeboat, I'd be happy that the ship sank. But gold is doing what it's supposed to do.

I guess this is typical for a lot of guys, but this doesn't fit OUR situation at all. My wife has been all in from the beginning, even before we got married. She has always had a lot of the characteristic of a man. She thinks like a guy. When I got really serious stacking in 2010 she got even more serious. I went over to her house one day and she pointed at a box and said check it out. She had ordered online. I couldn't believe how much she had ordered. She even had a place picked out where she wanted it stored. I'm a lucky guy.

BUT....

She'd kill me if she knew I posted this pic.

My wife came to our marriage with about 15 ounces of gold.
I asked her if she wanted to sell it and invest in the stock market.
Boy, did I get an earful then. In Vietnam, she said, you only sold your gold to survive — that's what it was for.
Before 1999 came to a close I started buying it myself and never stopped.
 
Mirrors my own story.

Before there was an online adversary-turned-mentor, persuading me to buy and stack...there was my ex. Now, we didn't talk a lot about stacking - we were too poor. But she was the money genius, the thrifty one, the one who'd put the brakes on things.

I was the spendthrift, always with a big idea or unaffordable plan.

Her father was a stacker. He and I never discussed it - it may even have been considered a family secret I wasn't supposed to know, but...hell, I was loose with money but I wasn't criminal. I also thought it more eccentric than target-worthy. I had visions of old miners living in the ruins of boom towns, screaming at tourists, "YOU'RE AFTER MY GOLD! YOU CAN'T HAVE MY GOLD!"

So, the road ahead was duly paved. Just as the Navy taught me political conservatism (showing me how collectivism fails so miserably) so too did she show me how to save, and how it makes for a better life. And her father normalized in my brain, hording gold as an alternative to trusting the good grey bank - which was once Lake County Federal, then became Bank One, then Chase Manhattan, and then Jamie Dimon's criminal cabal. Trust them? I don't even know them. Who the hell invited JPMDimon into the metro Cleveland area? Wattaya MEAN, I can't keep my tube of coins in my safe-deposit box? Veterans are now terrorists, Jamie?

Yeah. Looking back, it's too bad for me that she and I didn't find a way to make it work. Good on you that you did, Chris.

THANK YOU my brother. Honestly,..... I think God convinced me to grab ahold of her, in a dream. And I never really knew what the dream was or was about,.... Only,... that she and I were separated. I woke up in a sweat & it seemed so real. I called her at work just to make sure she was alright. It convinced me that she was "The One" & I needed to keep her in my life. I went and bought a ring.

It makes me sad that things didn't work out for you Casey,......I'm Sorry brother

Wisdom and maturity come to different people at different times. It's not always the function of age or a calendar.

It took me to my forties, I'd say, to really grow up. I was involved in some damn-foolishness even up to that point.

"Youth is wasted on the young." Wish I knew who first said that. It's fer-sure the Truth.
 
GSR below 50 for first time in a long time. Hindsight is 20/20, but all in all, I stuck by stubborn but informed convictions, and continued to buy, especially when a few acquaintances capitulated within the past few years. There were some dark days in the mid twenty-teens when it seemed like the only trajectory for Ag was down. To some extent the capitulation I've seen is is understandable; not a lot of people can put money into savings and never have to touch it for an extended period of time. But for me, it was increasingly becoming possible that the manipulation would outlive me. Fortunately, I get to see the next bull runs, at least to some extent.

Some seem to be afraid to continue their convictions into triple digits. I could be wrong, as well as people I listen to (such as pmbug, here), but the other hand I wonder if it won't be very many years before people will be wistfully remembering $90 silver, like we recently used to remember $9 silver. I do plan to take some profits (and reduce risk) over time during the rise, but my plan remains to hold to most of it. Except possibly PSLV, which I may convert to PHYS at some point.

I'll delete the pic in my reply, but you're a lucky guy. Looks aren't everything, and the older I get the more I realize looks are a minority discriminator - there are many much more important things, and I've known or known of too many in the "hot crazy" range. That said, looks don't hurt; nothing wrong with looking at your wife with a smile on your face. I'm also lucky in many ways with the gal that picked me, including looks, but if I did post her pic she would kill me, and she can tell when I'm lying, so you'll just have to take my word for it.
 
if i ever post a couple pic it will be from when i first started stacking ......~40yrs ago .......im sure she wouldnt mind
 
I was going to say something to Vichris in regard to posting a picture of his lovely wife.
Its about how the world has changed and how things like facebook can recognise faces and how the internet can be used to track someone down.
So an innocent post on the face of it but possibly giving away info about a stash and its location or a route to the person who knows where the stash is hidden. 'Tell us where it is and we wont hurt her' potentially .....

And where better to search than a popular gold bug site ?

I have been mindful of this ever since I joined this community and try hard not to give away any information that could track me down or might hint at any stash value. Theres stuff I would love to share about my circumstances but I resist the temptation and this is the only place I post and share anything that is publicly available .

And with the numbers going vertical, I even ponder going dark or as a compromise, popping up in a different guise .........
 
I live as silent as I can...but I refuse to live scared there is a lot more to life to live for, family and kids etc.....even if I were identified only God and my gps could find my stuff...
 
Vichris, i am sure a mod will delete it if wanted. Used to worry about a lot more stuff, but not now. Way back when, ciscokid was posting a lot of seemingly identifiable pics and i pmd him.
Now? It’s way more fun to be personable.
There was a big kefluffle when the duck passed on and ponce and what happened to their stuff. Life is too short even if your stack is big. Way more fun to have comeraderie. My long-time landlord passed last week, got a call from different new widow, news of UncaWalt’s and TomD’s struggles, southfork(MIA) BigJim and on and on.

Theres a difference between being scared and making things easier for villains, bit like locking your vehicle/ building doors …..

I do not fear death ( consequences of a near death experience as a teenager on a large motorcycle) but I do not seek it .
I am still happy with some risk and being invested in gold n silver needs this I reckon.

I'd be a bit wary of posting things that could identify you or make someone want to look into your background. Especially stuff that is political.

That's a nice transposition of "shout" and "stack". But for some reason I am creeped out by the singer and a mental image from "They Live".
But I can't knock wise investment advice put to a catchy tune.

I have to ask myself some questions;
1. Do I need it (the money, that is). If yes then sell.
2. Time to splurge on myself and buy something I never could? If yes, then sell
3. Is it an opportune time to move into another asset? If yes then sell
4. Am I sick and gonna die? SELL, bring on the hookers and blow

or sumptin like that…

Funny I just had this conversation with a personal friend. He's thinking of selling part of his stack if it goes over $100. He didn't have a reason to sell other than, "it's a huge profit". I dunno maybe he wants to pay something off or buy a toy??

I'm holding firm. We've been debt free for 9 years. I don't even spend the $$ I have coming in monthly. (except in Nov/Dec. for Christmas)

been stacking since late 70s .....liquidated in 1990 for a startup......restacked since then......only sold in 1990.......i am not sure what would trigger me doing any stack reduction selling....i have always mentally planned on passing it to children.... the items that might trigger a sale would be catastrophic health issues .... maybe a large real estate purchase.... a change in my thought process pointing to a better place for value to be....
 
I have sold some small amounts on the way up. We have seen this before, 1980 and 2011 are the best examples. Silver rocket up and then poops out. I can never catch the TOP, because I can only see the TOP after the fact. So, I better lock in some profits just in case the silver price does it again. So far, I did this:
Sold 40 ounces at $55.00
Sold 40 ounces at $62.00
Sold 40 ounces at $70.00
Sold 40 ounces at $82.00

Will sell another 40 at $90.00 or higher. But, I need a spot price of approx. $96 to achieve that. One brick-and-mortar dealer locally has been paying Minus $6.00 to $7.00 on .999 rounds and bars, a little higher on Eagles.

If silver collapses back to $60 or $50, I feel like I did the smart thing. If silver keeps going to $120 or $150, I have more to sell, so no regrets.

My average cost is under $10.00 But, I have been sitting on some of this for more than 30 years.
 
I would sell in order to buy a nice piece of acreage where I could put a low maintenance home that could be shuttered for 6 months.

To buy a better investment, say land or housing or business or that Porsche you always wanted...but never sell all.

The paranoia department wonders if it’s possible to track the owner of a vehicle in USA, like it is in Blighty?
A ‘registered cak park operator’ can go to the gov register of vehicle owners and get a name and address from a registration plate.
I can’t quite make out the registration plate in your picture so probably ok but are you in any owner groups that could be accessed to get info on you ?
A sad reflection on the big wide world and how we might ponder our opsec …….

We’ve long been mindful of being followed home from motorsport meetings with toys visible on the back of the vehicle.
Learned at the expense of friends who were less careful.
 
I “sold” most at an average price for the divorce. Added more after. I still have lots of debt, even child support so i could sell some and am getting close. If those Alaska Norfeds really bring auction prices in the multiple hundreds, i should catch that wave for the three i have left.

As far as identity— most are able bodied men with able families. We have a responsibility to state some opinion so others of similar mind aren’t crouching in the shadows like the main street media wants. We currently have an admininistration who values America and does not want to fundamentally change it, but restore it. When we get another obama or biden, our freely expressed opinions will be scrutinized again, but this is not the Uk

And back then, it was doable. In 1975, those were just old cars...except they'd stopped depreciating. They were selling for about $1000...price was starting to rise.

A couple of classmates (big high school, 1800 students, grades 10-12) had them - a '55 and '57. But, alas, if you had one, and wanted it to last, you couldn't drive it six months of the year on Cleveland's salt-encrusted streets.

Now...I'll never touch one again.

What do I want? What I got rid of 13 years ago. A 1996 Toyota Tercel.

Simplicity is beauty...is elegance.
 
LOL that's my kind of car, almost. I have a 2012 Prius-C, it get's 50+ MPG and it has 222K+ miles on it. It costs under 20K new.
