Rhenium, Osmium, Iridium and Platinum are the only metals with a density over 21 (g/cc), gold and tungsten are both very close to 19.3. So, you do not need anything other than a good scale and calipers to see if any of the four could be fakes...

But, other than Pt, are any of these worth investing in? Hmm...:

I haven't read your write-up yet, but off the top of my head, I'd say it largely depends upon your vision of the future (and your investment goals). Are those investments very liquid? Ie. can you sell them easily for close to market (spot) prices?
