Actually there are 5. All of the sticks are in front of the lighter. Just a mirror image

Correct. The use of the lighter-body as a mirror, is an untruth...matches poke out behind the lighter, but they align perfectly with the reflection on the lighter body.

There's no way to know how many were intended - in that drawing, which would not correspond to any actual image.

Are those in Seattle? Do they all identify as matchsticks? Eight sticks, six with heads., or twelve images of matches, ten with heads.

The rendering of shadows throughout the picture is wrong. The lighter is casting a shadow to the right while the matchsticks in the foreground are casting shadows towards the viewer. The matchsticks in the reflection of the lighter are also casting shadows towards the viewer (meaning they are reflecting shadows of the foreground matchsticks that were cast away from the viewer). Whether the lighter was intended to be showing a reflection or see-through, it's shadow doesn't align with the shadows of the matches.

Also, the gray lines underneath the matchsticks don't seem to have the correct spacing in the reflection.

I'm inclined to think that the lighter is supposed to be see-through (like a chunk of ice) and there are 10 matches.
