Warren Buffett has even disparaged the yellow metal in such a way.
...Just goes to show that even smart people say dumb things.
Indeed. I am so tired of journalists using the term "yellow metal" the second time they reference it. Say "gold" again, damnit! I fucking know that gold is a "yellow metal" and you don't need to remind me.

Somewhere in the decades past, I seem to remember advice to journalists to avoid repeating the name of the subject repeatedly, and to try to substitute various equivalent nouns to try to "keep it interesting". This advice is BULLSHIT. If the subject remains the same, KEEP USING THE SAME DAMN WORD! That keeps things clear, and I don't need to mentally figure out that this new term is just another word for the original subject. If you reference "gold" a hundred times, use the word "gold" a hundred times, asshole!

TL;DR
Gold vapor deposited on objects can increase the chance of seeing a fingerprint. And zinc helps the contrast.

You're welcome.
