Man who won $3.6 million lottery jackpot says girlfriend took the money and ‘ghosted’ him​

A man is suing his ex-girlfriend after she allegedly took their joint $3.6 million winning lottery ticket and “ghosted” him.

Lawrence Campbell of Winnipeg, Canada, filed the lawsuit against his ex-partner, Krystal Ann McKay, as well as Western Canada Lottery Corporation and Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries in May.

Campbell claimed that he purchased the Lotto 6/49 ticket on January 19, 2024. At the time, Campbell and McKay were in a “loyal, committed and promising” relationship, according to Campbell’s documents viewed by CTV News.

The lawsuit claimed Campbell handed McKay the ticket for safekeeping, as he had lost his wallet. He forgot about the purchase until he found the ticket on the floor at a friend’s house days later.

Bettors are worried Trump’s ‘big, beautiful bill’ could cause professional gambling in the U.S. to fold​

A relatively underappreciated constituency is raising the alarm about President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” — gamblers.

Tucked into the nearly 900-page legislation is a change to how gambling losses are taxed that some professional and amateur bettors say could crush the industry.

The provision, only a few paragraphs, would limit what gamblers can deduct from their yearly taxes to 90% of their losses starting in 2026. Currently, bettors can deduct the entirety of their losses, up until their winnings.

What a number of gambling aficionados pointed out on social media was that by limiting the tax deduction to 90% of losses, gamblers could actually owe taxes in years when they netted losses on their bets.

Powerball jackpot nears $2 billion—here’s the after-tax payout in every U.S. state​

Powerball’s jackpot has climbed to $1.8 billion ahead of Saturday night’s drawing at 10:59 p.m. ET.

No one has won since May, making it the third-largest jackpot in U.S. history, and it could climb past $2 billion if there’s no winner and the prize carries over to Monday night’s drawing. That would be only the second time Powerball has reached $2 billion.

The last jackpot over $1 billion was claimed in April 2024. The largest since then was a $526.5 million win in March.

X-ray tables. Hidden cameras. Pre-marked cards. Even special contact lenses. Prosecutors say the suspects charged Thursday in a high-profile illegal gambling bust made use of sophisticated technology to cheat victims out of millions.

In a series of arrests Thursday morning, law enforcement officers across the country took several big names in NBA basketball and dozens of alleged criminal figures into custody on illegal betting charges. One case focuses on sports betting while another involves allegations of elaborately rigged high-stakes poker games.

FBI officials said at a news conference that the poker ring was operated by organized crime figures from "La Cosa Nostra," members of known mafia families. The 31 defendants include alleged members of the Bonnano, Gambino, Luchesse and Genovese crime families, as well as Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups and former player Damon Jones. Miami Heat star Terry Rozier is charged only in the sports betting case.

NEW YORK (AP) — The stunning indictment that led to the arrest of more than 30 people, including Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier and other NBA figures, on charges of illegal sports betting has drawn new scrutiny of the booming business of professional sports gambling across the U.S.

Since widespread legalization, the multibillion-dollar industry has made it easy to place wagers on everything from the outcome of games to that of a single play with just a few taps of a cellphone. It’s just about impossible to go to a basketball, football, baseball or other pro game today — or watch a matchup on TV — without seeing ads for sports betting.

One of the biggest bettors on Polymarket, an online prediction market, doesn't consider himself a gambler, even though he's wagered more than $400 million on the platform.

"Domer," a name the Polymarket bettor uses online, used to be a professional poker player until he gave it up for prediction markets. He said it is more exciting than poker. He said last year he made nearly $3 million from wagers on Polymarket.

"I don't think of myself as a gambler," Domer said. "I'm taking very, very well-researched views on things… I feel it's much more akin to investing."

Robinhood is rolling out NFL parlay and prop bets on prediction markets platform​

  • Robinhood announced a number of prediction markets features on Tuesday.
  • Users are now able to trade what are essentially parlay and prop bets on NFL games and players.
  • The company also said users will be able to combine up to 10 outcomes across NFL games in custom combos, a feature that is expected to launch in the beginning of next year.
Robinhood is stepping up the capabilities of its fastest growing product — prediction markets — by giving users the ability to place what are essential parlay bets on multiple NFL games, putting it into direct competition with traditional sports books.

Starting Tuesday, users are able to trade preset combinations of the outcome, totals and spreads of individual NFL games, and starting in early 2026, users will have the ability to create custom combos of up to 10 outcomes across NFL games. Those will have “a structural look or feel as a parlay,” JB Mackenzie, vice president and general manager of futures and international at Robinhood, told CNBC.

A Pennsylvania company has pleaded guilty to a crime stemming from its work installing hundreds of illegal video gambling devices across the state — but its owners appear to be off the hook.

Schuylkill County-based Deibler Brothers Novelty Co. pleaded guilty Friday to corrupt organizations, a first-degree felony, and was ordered by a judge to forfeit $3 million to the state in cash and assets, according to the Office of Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday.

The war in Iran has seen millions of dollars being traded on so-called ‘prediction markets’ as users place bets on bombs.
Sites like Polymarket and Kalshi allow wagers to be made on anything from the Oscars to the outbreak of war.
But recent trades have prompted fears that some of those involved in military decisions may be profiting from insider knowledge.
One user, Magamyman, made half a million dollars with a prediction just hours before the Ayatollah of Iran was killed in a surprise strike in Tehran.
Now governments are investigating whether profits are being put before peace.
Kalshi, which is based in the US, says it’s regulated with no betting on death, and speaking in January, Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan said his platform was "the most accurate thing we have as mankind right now".
