Here are some charts that suggest that the ECB might secretly be maintaining a 15% gold component of their balance sheet.
This sounds better than it looks concerning that the rise in the price of gold prompted them to sell more than 150 million oz of gold between 2003 and 2009.
It's quite interesting, though, that the FED's balance sheet does not have such a stable gold component.
