Ex-Trump adviser John Bolton indicted by a federal grand jury​

A federal grand jury indicted former national security adviser John Bolton on Thursday, a senior Justice Department official said.

Bolton is the third person to be hit with federal charges in the last month after President Donald Trump called for their prosecution.

Bolton was indicted in federal court in Maryland, where he lives and where prosecutors have been investigating whether he improperly retained classified materials following his acrimonious departure from the first Trump administration.

John Bolton To Plead Guilty In Documents Case, Pay $2M Fine: Report​

John Bolton, former national security adviser to President Donald Trump, has reached a plea deal with federal prosecutors and is expected to plead guilty to one count of illegal retention of sensitive national security documents, according to CNN, citing three sources familiar with the matter.

Under the agreement, Bolton will pay a fine of more than $2 million. A single count of illegal retention carries a possible sentence of 0 to 60 months in prison.

A court hearing is currently scheduled for June 26.

Former Trump administration national security adviser John Bolton pleaded guilty on Friday to illegally retaining classified information, sealing a deal with federal prosecutors that could allow him to avoid a prison term.

Bolton, who became an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump after serving in the Republican’s first administration, is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 28 by U.S. District Judge Theodore Chuang in Greenbelt, Maryland.
