GIVEN what we KNOW about this crudnik...this was almost a given....

If I were to even consider a cryptocurrency, I would carefully review the details from the developer. After the technical details, there are usage cases.

Bitcoin and Etherium have both given some information on both counts. To me, the technical details seem sound, but I have to hold back because I am not in the expert class. As for the usage stories, I give both a fail. Bitcoin made its debut usage case with buying a pizza. Later, the black market used Bitcoin as an alternative to paper money, notably with the "Dread Pirate Roberts" on the "Silk Road". I do not recall Etherium in that business.

The idea of Etherium including "contracts" in is use as a medium of trade is interesting. There were some reports of traders doing stupid things with their contracts and losing big time. Some might say those were very slight errors or misjudgements in their trade logic. I might say they made an offer that was bad, and some bad actor called them on that bet. If one bets stupid, don't expect mercy from courts when another bettor wins and takes your bet.

So I think both leaders in this arena are no replacements for paper money. There are interesting future possibilities, and maybe on or the other will shatter the wall of usability. Right now, I do not see either as being more than a toy or working example of payment.

This leads to the conclusion that all other cryptocurrency schemes are just a shadow of the two mainstream ones.

Everyone who was anyone will remember "Flooz". It was supposed to be a payment method. Their advertising budget was heavy on the actor named "Whoopi Goldberg", and this story was a large part of my lack of respect for that actress.

The alternate currency field is full of stories about ideas, stories, famous people trying to deceive, and (usually or hopefully) the scam burning down in a well-deserved death. Hopefully the death includes flames and pain from the people who started the deception.
