Apparently, they record audio even when the TV is supposedly turned off and save the recordings to upload over the internet if not connected.

Whatta surprise...

Maybe, just as with all that processed food, now filled with seed oils...maybe the thing to do is, figure out how to do without the damn thing. Nothing on there is worth watching, IMHO. And IT is watching YOU.

Kill your television.

All "smart" tv's do that.

What we need are after market open-source ROM's to flash a tv with so as to get rid of that shit.

Ie: like ya can do with some cell phones.

Maybe some day

What ya can do, is to segregate all your tv's and other IOT devices onto their own network and then use Wire Shark to see exactly who/what they are communicating with, and then block those domains in your router.
(segregation keeps their prying eyes off your other network devices)

Might not get rid of all of it, but you can stop a lot of it.
