Milbrand mayor by one vote, according to official count

SUNBURY - An official count this morning of ballots cast Tuesday determined that Democrat Bill Milbrand won election as mayor of Shamokin by just one vote. The final tally was 603 for Milbrand and 602 for the Republican candidate, Dan McGaw.
On election night, the unofficial results had McGaw in the lead by nine votes. However, that was before 46 absentee ballots were counted.
The Northumberland County Board of Elections conducted the count precinct by precinct for the city's 13 polling stations. Milbrand took a one-vote lead at the conclusion of the Seventh Ward, and that lead held through the remainder of the tabulations.
Election officials began the count of city ballots shortly after 9 a.m., and the results became official around 11.
