‘Nobody Works. Nobody Gives A Damn’: Home Depot Co-Founder Says Socialism Killed Americans’ Work Ethic

Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus argued Thursday that “socialism” is to blame for America’s waning work ethic.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Marcus criticized the ideology, arguing that it makes people lazy. “Nobody works. Nobody gives a damn. ‘Just give it to me. Send me money. I don’t want to work — I’m too lazy, I’m too fat, I’m too stupid,'” he told the outlet.

The 93-year-old billionaire called capitalism the “basis” of Home Depot’s success, stating that the company’s fortunes have rippled across to manufacturers, vendors, distributors and workers. “That’s the success. That’s why capitalism works,” he added.

He makes a good point. Socialism teaches people that no matter how little they themselves do, that they deserve the same as others who do more and/or just have more skills.
....and if one is owed the same as what others have earned, why would they want to do the "more" part?

Blunt hiring ad at butcher shop prompts employers to share wild employee excuses: ‘My cat just had puppies'

Story by Cortney O'Brien • 2h ago

Employers eagerly shared some of their most cringe worthy employee stories after a Reddit user posted a picture of a colorful local job ad this week.

The Now Hiring sign, which Reddit user CaptTripps86 said they saw posted at a local butcher shop, had a few blunt warnings for applicants.

"Please do not apply if you oversleep, have no alarm clock, have no car, have court often, have no baby sitter every day, have to give friends rides to work later than we start work, experience flat tires every week, have to hold on to cell phone all day, or become an expert at your job with no need to learn or take advice after the first day," the ad read. "Must be able to remember to come back to work after lunch. Should not expect to receive Purple Ribbons or Gold Star for showing up to work on time."

The big box stores like Home Cheapo and B'Lowes are supposed to have a genuine expert in plumbing, electrical and paint & millworks. They often do, but you can't rely on them if on lunch, day off etc. That's partly why they are always moving people(cross training) them from section to section(we're in paint, moved to electrical etc).

I must declare that as impotent and out of touch most B'Lowes employees are, I have to give a huge declaration of thanks to the elec-chicken at B'Lowes that took the time to explain and draw a diagram explaining how wire a 3way switch. It was that 5-10 minute tutorial from a genuine expert that enabled me to "get it" re: basic wiring and "electricity" in general.

Loved that moment!

Nothing that going hungry for a month won't cure...
Completely agree but these kids aren’t coming out of school with any basic knowledge or skills

cant divide or multiply, can barely add. Don’t understand the concept or rounding or ratio

cany speak English

cant read or understand a written procedure

they're unhireable

I hire mostly 45-60 year olds at this point

My point is they may need to get used to being hungry

Next time you’re there, ask him how to wire in a dimmer for a four way switch and let me know.

:)

That's amazing.

It's generally all they can do to tell me where the power tools are, or the silicon calk or the hot-glue sticks.

I've NEVER seen anyone at Homie De-Pot who actually knew anything. Maybe someone in the lumber section knows; but not the sections I needed something out of.

Years ago there was a really good paint gal who had been to cosmetology school and really knew colors. A few of us contractors had her cell number for when the momo's covered her days off.
