I've seen cosplay fights at Renaissance Festivals, but I had no idea there was actually a professional league for this sort of thing. lol

Heh.
Reminds me of the 1950s TV wrestling matches.
They're just whacking at each other, no sword trusts to abdomen — prolly forbidden.
And the swords are not sharp.
We are not entertained!

I'm gonna reveal my ignorance, here. My cultural Luddism.

...but, I don't get it. I know the Cliff's Notes of history; but a sword duel was to the death.

To stage a competition with sabres that prevents mortal wounding, is not history - it's dance, or theatre.

You might as well have a shooting contest, maybe call it a dueling contest, where they shoot at each other, with all the participants wearing Kevlar and Lexan face-shields.

Enjoy it, if you're inclined. Not my cup of vinegar.

From what I'm gathering from watching a little, the AMMA mixes traditional MMA with medieval armor and some medieval weapon (axes, swords, shields, etc). They are fighting MMA with 100lbs of armor on. The weapon play involves technique and scores points like boxing.
