The Royal Canadian Mint, Canada's government mint, is rolling out something that looks to be like Sprott's PHYS gold trust fund (for Canadians only). They are closing on this program at the end of this month:

It will be interesting to see how successful this is.
 
Until you are holding the gold in your hands who knows who really owns it. Seems like it could be another paper trading 10x-100x the physical backing it. Call me paranoid but I am a bit skeptical.
