Very disturbing news.

Here's a .PDF with the text of the bill (section 1031 starts on page 359):

I've been watching McCain and his buddy Lieberman dig on this issue since at least 2007 when they were trumpeting Jane Harmon's Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007 (which thankfully never passed) and subsequent attempt to pass this shit in stand-alone legislation:

The political class in this country has jumped the shark.

The only good part of this is that the military is against it. Go guys - at least someone realized they took an oath to the constitution.

This central statism has been building for what seems like my whole life, and it's sick. My skin crawls whenever I hear a pol say or imply "we know what's best for you".

Having been everything from a spook, to an aerospace engineer, to a rock star, to homeless bum, to business owner, to stock trader (with a few left out) - hell, they can't even know which "me" they are talking about, much less "us" - which is why we let states experiment around and why centralization of power - even if shared between three branches (not what's proposed here, notice?) is very very bad.

Weren't warrant-less wiretaps on 100% of the populace enough to nip any revolution in the bud? I've seen the pictures of the Naurus and other gear installed in all major phone company switch points, with enough bandwidth to do *all* traffic, not just an amount you'd think the FBI etc would need for actual criminal work (which you can take either way). These are the actions of people who have screwed someone really really bad and are now afraid of retribution.

Now, if they were talking about denoting banksters the enemies of the state they are, I might feel better - for about 10 seconds. Except these clowns think they, not us ARE the state.

Most of the rest of what I feel about this can't be expressed in words you'd want to see here - and they wouldn't be enough for me unless they made your screen catch on fire.

Gotta go hide some of the guns somewhere safe.

This stuff just makes me sick. My family came here specifically to avoid it, and here we are again. I've come to realize that I may have to venture to a strange, faraway place in the same manner that my great grandparents did - with nothing but what you can carry and a language that the locals do not speak.

We don't have an America that we can flee to. Ugh.
