Two residents of New York City were arrested on Monday morning on federal charges related to allegations that they operated a "secret police station" in the city on behalf of the Chinese government.

The two suspects, 61-year-old Lu Jianwang, and 59-year-old Chen Jinping are accused of setting up and operating a police outpost in an office building in Manhattan's Chinatown neighborhood, working on behalf of the Chinese government's Ministry of Public Security (MPS), according to the Department of Justice.

European nations are doing too little to address the Chinese Communist Party's secret police stations—which human-rights groups say are being used to monitor diaspora communities and target suspected criminals outside of local due process. This is according to a leading watchdog documenting Beijing's foreign network.

Safeguard Defenders, a Spain-based rights group, has uncovered more than 100 police contact points in over 50 countries. These are operated by public security bureaus from several coastal Chinese cities. A Newsweek investigation has verified a number of the secret facilities in the U.S., thought to operate as part of the CCP's United Front Work Department.

When I used to buy food at Chinese restaurants I noticed how most of them stopped sit down service and put up plastic walls for takeout only. They also were heavily masked and not very open types of people. I suppose they live with the thought that they or their families can be found no matter where they are.
