Both Yank Gold Buffalo's and Canuck Gold Maples are made from 1oz of purer 24 kt .9999 gold but why are the Maples always so much cheaper ?

Not occasionally cheaper but always cheaper ? Right now my gold consists of ASE's and Krugers but next time to the plate I want to step up to a more pure coin and at the prices I see, as much as I admire the Yank Buffalo's, one gets more for their money with the Maples. Which is another beautiful coin. The Britannias too for that matter, another .9999 coin. Philharmonics and kangaroos too while were talking about it. The premiums on the Buffalos are rather insane despite their beauty so why would anyone buy them ?

Yes 1 oz of gold is 1 oz of gold but I'm talking premiums and out the door prices as well as sometimes wanting the beauty of .9999 gold.

Gold Buffalo coins are legal tender in the USA with a nominal face value of $50. This means that they (supposedly!) enjoy protection by the Secret Service against counterfeiting. Some folks pay a premium for that added peace of mind.

I understand that part about the Secret Service but the other, foreign, coins Ive mentioned are also legal tender and I assume are protected by some Govt. LE arms like the Secret Service. For that matter AGE's and ASE's are also legal tender protected the same way as Buffalo's.

Britannias are legal tender. Philharmonics, Kangaroos, Maples...ect All are legal tender in their host countries and I think all have security features.. All have .9999 Gold, yet the Buffalo's have very high premiums. I think the gold Maples, Philharmonics, and Krugers, have the best prices on them, the lowest premiums, and as much as I'd like a few Buffalos I have to take the premiums into account.

And were not talking a few bucks. Were talking $100 or more on the Buffalo while the Britannia'a and the Maples are closer to $30, the Philharmonics closer to $50, and all have the same .9999 gold as well as legal tender in their host countries and security features. Of course the Kruggerands are the exception but even still like the AGE it has 1 oz of pure gold just 22k and on the plus side it has the name recognition going for it and often insanely low premiums. Which is why I have a fistful.

But I do want to mix things up with some .9999 coins and as much as I like the Buffalo's the premiums on them suck.

New American PM buyers that don't know much always.get directed to US gold. I think the dealers.do it for bigger premiums plus easier resale. Personally I prefer foreign gold at spot and pre-33 circulated US gold.
