Global stock markets are at all time highs. Gold has doubled and silver tripled in the last two years alone. What's behind these moves? Shouldn't economic crises like Iran be pushing asset prices down? Is now a good time to invest?

Stock futures dip as investors monitor the latest Iran war negotiations: Live updates​

Stock futures edged lower early Monday, following a winning week on Wall Street, as oil prices jumped after President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s latest proposal to end the war.

Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average were flat. S&P 500 futures were down almost 0.1%, while Nasdaq 100 futures dropped 0.13%.

The first call came to Bob Allen’s phone at 6 p.m. ET on a Friday. The message: Get the repo men ready.

Spirit Airlines was still in operation and planes were in the air. But the aircraft leasing firms that own dozens of its bright yellow jets were getting anxious as Spirit barreled toward liquidation. They wanted their planes back.

S&P 500 ekes out a gain for first close above 7,400 despite another Iran setback: Live updates​

The S&P 500 rose on Monday, bolstered by key tech stocks, even as oil prices rose after President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s latest proposal to end the war.

The broad market index gained 0.2%, while the Nasdaq Composite inched up 0.1%. Both indexes had scored fresh all-time intraday highs during the session. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 0.2%.

Iran sent a new proposal to U.S. negotiators, centered on ending the monthslong conflict. The counteroffer stressed the need to end the war on all fronts and to lift sanctions on Tehran, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency said, citing an informed source.

Stock futures slip as traders await inflation reading, monitor Iran war developments: Live updates​

U.S. stock futures slipped Tuesday as traders looked ahead to the release of April’s consumer price index reading and weighed higher oil prices.

S&P 500 futures were 0.3% lower, and Nasdaq 100 futures dropped 0.7%. Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average were down 46 points, or 0.1% lower.

West Texas Intermediate futures jumped 3% on Tuesday to trade at $101.01 per barrel. Brent crude climbed 2.7% to $107.02. Those gains built on Monday’s advance, after President Donald Trump called the month-old ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran “unbelievably weak” and said it was “on massive life support” after rejecting an “unacceptable” counterproposal from Tehran to end the war.

S&P 500 and Nasdaq futures rise as Nvidia leads chip stocks higher: Live updates​

S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 futures rose Wednesday, led by gains in chipmaker names, while traders looked ahead to the release of another major inflation report.

Futures tied to the S&P 500 were up 0.2%, while Nasdaq-100 futures popped 0.8%. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures shed 115 points, or 0.2%.

Nvidia shares traded higher by more than 2% in the premarket. AMD also climbed 2% while Micron gained nearly 6%. The VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) advanced 2.2%.

He helped steer Norway through the banking crisis of 1992 as State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, spent 21 years as a senior partner at McKinsey, and in 2009 was called in as interim Central Bank Governor of Iceland when the country's economy collapsed. He later co-founded the oil company DBO in Brazil, which later merged into Maha Capital.
