Very interesting the massive upturn of gold buying in mainland China.

Eric Sprott 1/25/12:

“So it’s obviously going to increase the demand for gold and we have seen some data that China has been a rather large buyer of gold. People will consider it a currency and it has to necessitate more buying. You know, Eric, I think one of the really interesting things that happened was the imports of gold into China, from Hong Kong, which always were less than 20 tons a month, all of the sudden, beginning about 5 months ago, went 20 (tons), 30, 40, 80 and in November 102 tons. 102 tons is a staggering number. The world mines, excluding China, less than 200 tons a month. China cannot continue to buy 102 tons and not have the price escalate dramatically.”

But what made them go from 20 tons to 102 tons in 4 months?
Too much fast food? /jk

Not sure exactly. Perhaps news about MF Global or their own internal economic troubles had something to do with it.

The Chinese are smarter in some respects, I would agree to that as an axiom. When they plan, they think ahead for the next hundred years. In the U.S.A., we only plan for the next election cycle. The tragedy of our republic is that it has been subsumed within the election process, meaning that after a couple of years in the Senate, they start to campaign again. Same same for the house, after a year or two, it starts all over again. That our presidential campaigns cost a billion dollars now is a fucking perversion of our system. That corporations, who cannot die, cannot feel pain, never get hungry and never get sick are considered people is also a perversion. Unless citizens united is repealed, our president will be chosen by the highest bidder, using voting machines made by foreign companies and private companies with shady backgrounds, using "proprietary software" that they successfully withheld from the governments buying them. They can be hacked with about ten bucks worth of parts and do not leave a paper trail.

Are the Chinese smarter? I think so.

@ our election system, I don't think election money should be legal unless it comes from a person capable of casting a vote.

On topic, yes they are.

rounding error in the great ponzi scheme of things, like banker bonuses.
The amounts being created and given to the banks to keep em solvent, is vast by comparison
