The vid is 26 minutes long.

Reading the description reminded me a bit of that short lived TV show Top Shot. Top Shot had some similar sounding shooting challenges where contestants had to perform in stressful situations.

I've watched several of those and I just cringe. I couldn't do most of those at 20. I sure as Hell can't do them now. I'm mostly happy if I can get up in the morning. Still, I'm glad someone can do them. Party on, Dudes!

The Best Match Ever: Finnish Brutality 2024 (Day 1)

Sep 6, 2024

Finnish Brutality 2024 took the standard for practical shooting matches and raised it again - this was the best match that I have ever had the chance to shoot. Run by Varusteleka, a Finnish military and outdoor good supplier, it was ten stages of shooting over two days and took place a bit north of Helsinki.

There were 235 competitors this year, and two thirds of them were in the Armored division, shooting with rifle plates and other gear (mandatory minimum of 26lb total). Of those, a third also opted to join the Breacher subset, which required completing a physical challenge after each stage, just to make things harder.

I was in Armored Breacher myself, using a semiauto clone of an RK 62 M3 Finnish military rifle (full video coming Sunday) and a Creator series Laugo Alien. I ended up taking 30th of 235 shooters, which I am extremely pleased with!

The RK 62 M3 Clone I Used for Finnish Brutality 2024

Sep 8, 2024

This year at Finnish Brutality 2024, I was able to use a semiauto clone of a Finnish military RK 62 M3 rifle. This is the latest upgrade to the Finnish issued RK 62 rifle. Starting in 2015, the Finnish Defense Forces began a program to update some of their stock of RK62s. The goal was to add optics and mounting capability for lights and lasers, as well as giving the rifles adjustable-length stocks to fit different shooters and armored gear. The first RK 62 M model did this with an optics side rail, new safety lever with a finger tab, and replacement of the original tube stock with an adapter block to fit Magpul AR stocks. The follow-on M2 version added a new suppressor-capable muzzle device and an Mlok handguard. The final M3 version painted the whole rifle green.

The rifle I used is a commercial semiauto Valmet M/62S - the same type that was sold commercially in the US. It was updated to M3 pattern using parts from a company called AK2.0 (the handguard, muzzle device, stock adapted, and optics rail). It was painted green, and fitted with an FDF Aimpoint Micro and Ase Utra suppressor. It's not an exact clone, but it's pretty close, and handles exactly like the real thing.

BUG Match: Guns of James Bond

Today my friend Tom joins me at the BackUp Gun (BUG) Match for a bunch of James Bond guns. We tried a new match division this month called Wildcard, where you use a different division of gun (Revolver, Hideout, Backup, and Big 5) in each stage. Tom and I realized that between literary and cinematic Bond we can cover 4 really cool Bond pistol this way - a (faux) Fitz Special, Beretta 418, PPK/S, and ASP. Should be fun! Let's see how we can handle each of them in turn...

Czech Combat 2024 Day 1: Welcome to the Mystery Fun Van

Nov 28, 2024

Czech Combat is a 2-day, 12-stage practical matching using rifle and pistol, sponsored by CZ and Sellier & Bellot and run by B-Rdy. It is not a Brutality match, although it shares a lot of elements with Brutality. There is not as much physical challenge to the stages, instead having a mixture of tactically-oriented stages and IPSC-like stages. It was an extremely fun experience, with great competitors and really good range staff officiating the event!
