As the German Lebensraum war progressed, disillusioned generals made an @$$@$$ination attempt on Der Fuhrer's life. Didn't work. The Great Leader did name a successor; but nobody was paying attention. He commanded the Third Reich for, what, about three days...?

Now we have a similar melting down. Trump's position in the decomposition of the Untied Skates is irrelevant. I think he's an honest broker, if not the proper man for the job; but that's irrelevant.

His team is breaking up, and Elon's hysterical claims seem aimed to discredit him. Given Elon's open hallucinogenic-use habits of the past, I think it discredits Elon; but that's not good, either. The DOGE cuts were essential to success. Elon being out and warring with Trump, will give the DOGE underlings conflicted loyalties.

This, and this moronic Big Beautiful Bankruptcy Bill...it's the GD same old same-old, all over again. Vote for the bill to find out what's in it.

I've said this a dozen times, and I think now it's undeniable. ONLY a break from Washington (State/regional Secession) and dissolution of the Union, can save those people who are capable of saving themselves, their cities and regions. Those who can't...can jolly-well find out where dependency on Big Government leads to.
 
Leadership based on personality, seems how we roll, today. We find this on both sides, all sides. Ross Perot. The Lightworker...you know, the man bigger than mere national boundaries. We don't need no stinkin' birf certificate...

Reagan had a bit of a cult following; and now Trump was ALL ABOUT personality. And, of those criticizing him? The usual Ron Paul acolytes. Ron Paul sponsored no bill of substance; got little done in over 30 years in Congress; got less than 2 percent in early primaries...and he's gonna lead us out of it?

His (economic) IDEAS are exactly what we needed and need; but he's not the man to sell them - an obnoxious, parsimonious personality. An effective politician must be a great salesman - there is no way of avoiding it. Dictators don't need personality; but politicians, who lead, not drive, people, do need it.

So, sadly...we'll be in this mindset of competing Cults of Personality until the republic collapses. Which, according to Armstrong, Strauss, Howe, and others, will be between now and 2027.

A license to crime is not enough for Trump | Opinion​


Federal district courts are pushing back against the Trump administration, and at least so far they’re holding. During May, as reported in Democracy Docket, federal judges dealt Trump an embarrassing 96% loss rate, agreeing with plaintiffs who challenged his overreach in 26 of 27 cases.

Federal judges across the ideological spectrum concur that most of Trump's executive orders, along with official actions undertaken to effectuate them, exceed the scope of presidential authority, either by exceeding what Congress has explicitly authorized, or, in the absence of controlling legislation, by exceeding Article II authority.

Trump’s propaganda machine spins these losses as “judicial activism,” advancing Trump’s false narrative that adverse rulings have come fast and furious from “activist” judges appointed by Joe Biden and other Democrats. Trump media claim that these judges have acted out of partisan malice to “block President Trump’s agenda.”

But the data doesn't bear that out. According to a recent analysis by Adam Bonica, a political scientist at Stanford, judges are ruling against Trump regardless of ideology. Overall, Trump has lost 72% of cases decided by Republican-appointed judges, compared to an 80% loss rate from Democrat-appointed judges. Given that facts and procedure vary widely by case, Trump’s loss rates of 72% and 80%, although remarkable, are too similar to support any inference of partisan bias.

Is the decline of reading poisoning our politics?​

If you aren’t feeling the itch yet, you will soon.

It could come by the end of this sentence or, on a good day, the fifth paragraph. But before long, a little voice in your head will whisper, “Click away for just a second” — just long enough to take a quick glance at your email or Instagram feed or group chat or 401(k) or chatbot’s answer to “how to tell if a mole is cancerous” or Amazon results for “joint-smoking garden gnomes.”

At least, this will happen if you’re anything like myself. And I am not alone.

Americans still consume plenty of text. Social media platforms teem with words — even video-based apps like TikTok are replete with captions and comments. And on average, we spend more than two hours scrolling through such platforms each day.

But not all reading is created equal. The mind can skim over the surface of a sentence and swiftly decode its literal meaning. But deep reading — sustained engagement with a longform text — is a distinct endeavor. As neuroscientist Maryanne Wolf explains, when you give your complete attention to a stimulating book or longform article, you activate a wide array of the brain’s linguistic and cognitive capacities. In this contemplative state, the reader rapidly draws connections between the text and their background knowledge, generating original thoughts in the process.

In Connecticut, state employees are retiring with pension benefits higher than their last salary. How? It’s a classic scheme known as “spiking.”

Tens of thousands of Connecticut state employees enjoy the unlimited right to spike overtime — that is, to work enormous hours of overtime just before retirement for the sole purpose of boosting the pensions calculation, which includes overtime pay in immediate pre-retirement years.

Trump says he plans to phase out FEMA after 2025 hurricane season​

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he plans to phase out the Federal Emergency Management Agency after this year’s hurricane season, offering the clearest timeline yet for his administration’s long-term plans to dismantle the disaster relief agency and shift responsibility for response and recovery onto states.

“We want to wean off of FEMA, and we want to bring it down to the state level,” Trump told reporters during a briefing in the Oval Office, later saying, “A governor should be able to handle it, and frankly, if they can’t handle it, the aftermath, then maybe they shouldn’t be governor.”

Trump added that the federal government will start distributing less federal aid for disaster recovery and that the funding will come directly from the president’s office. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration projects this year’s hurricane season, which officially ends on November 30, to be particularly intense and potentially deadly.

Weather, war and protests threaten to rain on Trump’s military parade​

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump’s military parade here on Saturday — a celebration of the Army’s 250th birthday that happens to coincide with the commander in chief’s 79th birthday — comes at a time when American forces are supporting domestic deportation efforts and Israel’s defense against Iranian missiles.

The first such parade since Washington welcomed victorious U.S. troops home from the first Gulf War in 1991 — and an echo of similar extravaganzas following the Civil War and World Wars I and II — Saturday’s affair will feature more than 6,000 troops, a procession of various types of armored vehicles alongside the National Mall on Constitution Avenue, and dozens of military aircraft cruising overhead.
