PM Donald Tusk waited until President Karol Nawrocki left the country before sending police to seize the Constitutional Tribunal building in Warsaw at night. Chains on the doors. Riot units deployed.
Look at the sheer scale of police deployment outside the Constitutional Tribunal tonight. Dozens of riot police officers in balaclavas and white helmets with visors down are packed tightly behind the fence, blocking access to the institution. On the other side, crowds of Polish citizens waving white-and-red national flags and holding protest signs are confronting the cordon, chanting “Thugs!” (“Bandyci!”). Even through a megaphone you can hear the message from behind the gate: “There is no permission to enter.” This is how the current government uses state force against its own citizens and constitutional institutions.
Nawrocki was halfway to Senegal when he abruptly turned his plane around: “At a moment like this, the President must be in Poland.”
The Tribunal’s own account calls it a coup d’état. The EU, which backs Tusk, has issued no condemnation. Poles rejected mass immigration. Tusk governs anyway. France burns. Now Poland. Europe’s democratic credibility is collapsing.
