I wish I could tell you how shocked I was at this. I think most people who visit this site regularly/semi-regularly won't be that shocked. It's amazing to me how many people though are clueless that this is so prevalent, and at how good some of the fakes really are.

Hopefully their motorcycles will make similar improvements, to the point we really cannot tell they are fake copies of eerrr Japanese motorcycles ......... (-;

Yeah we stopped making them once the Japs had perfected copying.

And once the fake gold coins are able to pass all tests are they still fake ?

Why would the Gov worry about counterfeit gold and silver coins ?

Its a great way to discourage their uptake and use.

LOL, pawn shops... last year I found myself short of cash and decided to get a short term loan on some of my silver. What a shock when shop after shop wouldn't even discuss it. Many pawn shops, so I was informed, will not buy or make loans on precious metals because of all the counterfeits. One shop tested my 10 oz bar with a magnet before refusing my loan request because it was "magnetic". I tried to explain to them that silver is paramagnetic and does have a weak attraction to magnets (which is what happened during the test) but they wouldn't accept it.

So the corrosive effect of encouraging information spread about the level of counterfeiting to circulate, becomes effective in the same way that few will take high demonination banknotes,
as they have been 'conclusively linked to crime' ( yet ironically issuing worthless paper backed by nothing is not the crime they are linked to ...)

Suddenly the old chestnut 'if you dont hold it, you dont own it' stops working as effectively.

Perhaps my Bullionvault / Goldmoney approach is the better option ?

Fake Gold and Silver Coins On Hundreds of Websites, Cautions Anti-Counterfeiting Educational Foundation

February 22, 2023

(Temecula, California) February 22, 2023 — A Long Island, New York investor mistakenly thought he could make a quick profit of at least several hundred dollars on an online purchase of coins from a vendor he found advertising at www.Walmart.com. Instead, the unsuspecting buyer unhappily learned all ten of the “American Silver Eagle” coins he received are fakes, according to the nonprofit Anti-Counterfeiting Educational Foundation (www.ACEFonline.org).

“The ACEF has notified Walmart and the Secret Service about the advertiser, and he is under investigation; however, bad actors selling counterfeit rare coins and fake gold and silver bullion coins online frequently change company names and websites,” cautioned Doug Davis, ACEF Anti-Counterfeiting Director.

It's the only real benefit of coins produced by national mints. Legal tender status - even if the nominal face value is stupid - means they fall within the purview of counterfeiting regulations.
