NATO Forces Wrap Arctic Warfare Cold Response 26 Drills

NATO forces wrapped up Exercise Cold Response 26 on Thursday following 10 days of arctic warfare drills across Norway and Finland.

The exercise was the first NATO activity in the High North under Arctic Sentry, NATO’s new enhanced vigilance activity dedicated to the defense and security of the Arctic region. Cold Response, which began March 9, involved 32,500 participants from 14 allied countries. The military forces carried out land and air drills in the northern regions of Norway and Finland while naval drills were conducted in the waters around Norway, according to a Norwegian Armed Forces statement.

“NATO will defend every inch of allied territory, no matter where the challenges come from. Our armed forces are ready to operate in extreme conditions, and Cold Response 26 takes this readiness one step further,” NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said during a Wednesday press conference on the exercise.
