"Following situation assessments and passenger testimonies, Israel is treating the incident as a full-fledged terrorist attack. It appears that the co-pilot repeatedly stabbed the captain. Once the attack began, several crew members and passengers managed to break through the cockpit door and subdue the attacker.

According to one senior official, the co-pilot is currently being questioned, and indications are mounting that he intended to take control of the plane and crash it with the passengers on board."

 
It is going to get crazier. i told the wife unit that the middle and lower classes are getting screwed right now. The best of times for the next 2 years is right now. Prepare for some hard times ahead. Now cue the crazies.

Trump says the plumber yanked the attacking pilot out of his seat, passengers pinned him down, and then he grabbed the controls:

"Lifted it up.

And leveled out the plane before it crashed.

This is the story that I heard. I don't know if it's true."

FlyDubai says crew members riding along landed the jet in Tabuk after the captain and co-pilot were both hurt, and one passenger told the BBC two spare pilots meant for the next flight took over.

Whoever charged that cockpit as the plane dropped 17,000 feet is a hero.

Not sure locking cockpits makes much sense anymore. Everyone was very fortunate the stabbed pilot managed to open the door before passing out.

On 9/11, other than United 93, the passengers didn't fight back because until that day, hijacking meant ransom demands or trips to Cuba, not terrorism.

Now, once it is known they are hijacked, everyone on the plane is ready to fight as they assume they will all die otherwise.

Locked cockpits made sense when the main threat was preventing a hijacker from the cabin from taking over. They make far less sense when the threat can be from the pilots themselves, as was the case in this flight and one some years back where the pilot locked out his co-pilot then crashed the plane into a mountain.

Any threat from a hijacker from the cabin is mitigated by the fact that people won't just let that happen in a post-9/11 world.

I think the balance weighs in favor of unlocked cockpit doors.

Not necessarily. What I read was that, the copilot was "smashing the control panel" when the door was finally opened.

They were in an 18,000'+ dive.

Can you even imagine how hard it would be just to function at all, let alone fight someone in that environment?


For anyone suggesting that it was all a set up, who on Earth would want to be part of a mission like that?

"Hey, we need you to get on a plane that's gonna take an 18,000 foot dive, and we need you to wait for the pilot to unlock the door so you can run in and save the aircraft for us."


No one would sign up for something like that.
