So glad that HEB (regional supermarket in Texas) doesn't do this crap.

Sam's has CC promotions at their registers. You're checking out and they'll say you can save so much on your purchase if you'll sign up for their card. Depending on the purchase you could actually save a good bit. Kind of a win-win I guess.

If you do sign up their process is pretty much streamlined. You're already a member so they have a lot of your info. Doesn't take long at all.

Have seen the same type of thing many times over. Dept stores especially good for it.

Sam's and Costco already track your purchases with your membership account.

Linky stuff:

A grocery store located in Manhattan's Upper West Side uses facial and voice recognition technology to combat a surge in shoplifting, reported Patch NYC.

"This Business collects, retains, converts, stores, or shares customers' biometric identifier information, which is information that can be used to identify or help identify you. Examples of biometric identifier information are eye scans and voiceprints," a sign reads on the front door of the Fairway store on Broadway and West 74th Street.
