Do you have a GSR number where you'd entertain trading for gold ? In 11 mos the ratio has gone from 105 to 62 which in itself is astounding and I figure its getting to the point where I'd at least consider trading my 5 and 10 oz bars and 90% for gold If I thought I was getting a fair shake. That way I could get a half dozen or so gold coins while still keeping skin in the game with my coins and rounds.

I think my number is closer to 50 to 1 when, and if, it happens then its a no brainer. Do you guys have a number and what is it ?

There's one more thing that comes into play here, and it's different for everybody. At least it is for me. That is,.... the price I paid for what I'm going to trade, that AND the ratio of what I paid, to what it's worth today.

Aye — that's the ticket, bro.
I'm comparing what silver cost me to buy in 2011 vs how much Au I could have bought, to determine a break even point.

I'm keeping my eye on it, will maybe do a little at a time on the way down. But not planning on starting until 30:1
I did 3 oz of Gold for 300 oz of silver back in April when it was 105:1 ( the 5 in the 105:1 covered the Premium )

I'm holding till at least 45:1 before I consider selling any.

Plus I'm hugely in Profit purely on the price rise in the 300 oz of SILVER I have for the Gold ( Silver has increased it's Value % wise, much more than Gold )

Hi Ho Silver 😎

My last Ag —> Au was about 42:1. About eight or ten years ago if I remember right.
But I'm not looking to make a killing, I just want to divest a 100 oz bar into fractional gold.

if i get a chance i will try to get to a lcs next week to discuss this ......moving 100ozers to gold or smaller silver

saw you had discussed on another thread and was put off by the discounts below spot ......my opinion is the face to face market is what can be negotiated just like premiums, discounts are just part of doing business and spot is just a indicator of possible value so dont hang your hat to tight to spot price at least in my opinion

I'm in a holding pattern for now. For one thing I think theres still room for movement and 62 just isn't good enough. I think we'll be in the 50's next week or two and then its just a game of nerves. I say once were in the 40's its definitely game on but even then its day by day. We get there and its The Hunger Games and every man for hisself.

"May the odds be ever in your favor".

It's becoming a day to day situation. MUCH different than in the past. The LCD's are seeing the same thing we are. They are getting bombarded with people bringing in 90% jewelry, silverware, junk, and all kinds of odd ball silver stuff. Most are saving it up to be melted or they're melting it themselves. But they don't want anymore for the time being so they are offering way under spot......AND,.... They're encouraging people to hold on to it for the foreseeable future. Asking them to come back in a month or a few weeks.

On the other hand they're buying/trading all the fine AG they can get. You are spot on with your comment about the face to face market. I was invited to "the back room" with my primary dealer and we discussed our deal in hushed tones. She just didn't want the crowd up front hearing/seeing how differently they are having to deal with junk vs fine bullion.

I was in 3 shops yesterday,.... 2 of them I have dealt with a lot and know the owners and their employees by name. The 3rd one I have only been to 3 times, but the guy recognized me from a dealing we had at a coin show in a local town.

And that brings me to this. Find the nearby coin shows and frequent them. There's one here in my area that meets once an month at least. Good way to meet the local shops/dealers. It's also where you can get some of the best deals too. Nothing like ALL of your competitors being in the same room..... ;)

Here's a link to the local group in my area........... https://www.coinshows-usa.com/coin-shows/Nebraska/

They are waiting a long time to get paid for what they are sending in as well. Maybe not as big a problem for a big operation but a smaller one ? Yes, its a big problem. They want to keep their customer base and they do want to make a few shekels on their metal but if they have to wait 4 or 6 weeks to get paid what they just gave you 3 or 4 under for it ties up a lot of their ready cash and they will have to start turning people away.

And that will impact what they can put out in the morning and impact us as well. Not much of a problem for me. My LCS is a fairly small operation that always holds some of what I'm interested in. Coins, rounds, and today some 1 and 10 oz bars. That pretty much is my Ag stack. I know they have a decent Au selection most days, tho not today, but since I can't swing oz's of Au I dont even know what they are selling them for.

Nice, mostly untouched, selection of numismatics that I'd love to get back to but what cash I have has to go to silver right now. They are coin heavy, my stack is coin heavy, and I go in heavy to buy only and with cash so I hope its taking a little pressure off them.

Over the years the only times I have gotten a strait spot for spot swap was person to person with like quality products .... like sae's for gae's.........at a shop it's usually negotiable but never even....I am always curious about how shops elsewhere are negotiating.......early this year I did a my gold for his silver swap and we agreed on 50% of his normal premium/discount both ways
