I know the premiums are high but when a low mintage Libertad or onza becomes available I just can't help myself. My two dozen Mexican 1 oz'ers are the pride of my silver stack. I just love Mexican coins.

They are pretty awesome coins. I stole some 2 oz's on sale randomly at a small premium years ago. Got some 1oz's from the LCS a couple years ago at decent prices.

Locked in my 20117 yesterday as well as my '82 and 2020 Libertads. I missed out on my 2021, I was a bit to late jumping on it.

Have I mentioned my LCS had 5 1982, 1st year, silver Libertads that looked like they'd been just struck. Yeah, some guy had come in with an unopened roll of 20 and they had 5 left when I got there. Which I grabbed for $64 apiece. I gave two away to good friends who had helped me once and kept three to add to my 1982's. I wish I had a grading account cause these three would grade very high, I know they would.

And 1982 was a very good year. It was the first year I was out of the Air Force and the party was on. The perch fishing was spectacular that year and I had a basement APT in our building, a motorcycle, and a steady stream of females from college in and out, going airborne with me in my waterbed.

Gawd I loved the '70s and '80s.

Getting back to gold Pesos I had the money right before gold went ballistic and made the mistake of waiting while they were in the $5,000 range. Now they are well over $5,600 and climbing. Thats a lot of money for a coin I'm mostly buying for numismatic reasons. For investment only reasons I'd probably spend on Buffalos or Libertys, even Krugerrands.

I want the 50 peso mostly because I just like the coin tho I suppose gold is gold and you can never really lose with it.

I happened to be persuaded to buy libertads in 2014.

They are basically my only collectible coins of note. Here is the thing: i bought a 7-coin set for $510 after delivery and a few other proof and bullion coins for similar pricing. Maybe just above $60 per ounce in 2014. The closed auctions shows active bidding for these coins. There IS currently a hot market for them, but in order to get top dollar, one should use a big auction site. After fees and hassle, buying $510 low-premium bullion in 2014 at about $20/oz would have been simpler and net about the same in dollars.
