Foster County State’s Attorney Kara Brinster filed new criminal charges against Brandt including Murder, which is a Class AA Felony, and Duty in Accident Involving Death or Injury, a Class B Felony. The charges of vehicular homicide were dropped in lieu of the upgrade.

Charges have been upgraded for Shannon Brandt, the suspect who allegedly ran over 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson on September 18 for being a Republican in McHenry, North Dakota.

According to local news, Foster County State’s Attorney Kara Brinster filed new criminal charges against Brandt including Murder, which is a Class AA Felony, and Duty in Accident Involving Death or Injury, a Class B Felony. The charges of vehicular homicide were dropped in lieu of the upgrade.

One of the problems of living in a very red state like mine is the leftists become super vicious like this. Also many of them end up running as republicans just to get elected cause they know if they have an "R" next to their name, they will get a lot more votes since many people won't know that much about them.
 
this is a very fair update for this losers charges considering that he was very concerned about the original charges ruining his life. He ran away after hitting Elingson, allowing him to die and then claims that he is not a flight risk. Brandt's convulited logic is breath taking and self serving.
 
No word in the article on whether bail was increased or anything.
