If he's listening...renting is not a bad idea; but AirBnB has run its course. Quality has really dipped and people are re-discovering that professionally-managed hotels are more honest, cleaner and more dependable..
I have a friend selling a house in Prescott AZ. Tiny 730ish sq ft house, 2 bd 1 bth on a smallish lot. $320K. Someone will probably buy it and turn it into an Air B & B or rental. Good way to make some $$. Prescott is a huge tourist town.
This tiny house stuff is not my cup of tea. I don't get it, at all. Seems like the answer for people who never had a plan. That's my 2¢

There's the old-school way - find a realtor who has a rental book. Many do in resort or popular areas - my parents used such an agency for years, renting out what they'd intended as their retirement home (but weren't interested in once they retired).
