Conductivity? Odd.

I'd always thought vending machines had gone off of weight & size. Maybe older machines did, but newer ones don't. Would they have to change to some sort of optical scanner if they can't get the conductivity right? It seems there would be a way to fool any of the methods, but I guess there aren't that many people looking to do all the time & effort to get a bag full of stale candy bars.
