I looked into disabling the OnStar on my Tahoe. It is possible, but not easily done. I plan on selling it in a few years anyway, so I have left it alone.

Or buy a 1980 Dodge pickup.

Or a K-car. You used to be able to get those for pennies.

Anything earlier than 2000, is gonna work. And most models before 2010.

That actually scares me.

Imagine a traffic scene, in a "Diverse" urban area, where some jughead is driving like a compleat idiot. I see who it is, and shout aloud, "YOU STUPID (racial slur)!!!" - and then his luck runs out, and his zero-down Mercedes slams into me.

Where he's screaming to the equally-Diverse cop, "Dat futhermucker RAMMED me!" And Government Motors helpfully supplies the cabin record of what was said before impact.

Unless I have a dashcam, and can prove I did nothing malicious - AND the DEI cop is willing to LOOK at it (some police have refused to review camera footage) - then I go to prison for Hate Driving, or some PC crime.

^^^^^

That's wonderful - if you think that your consent, and "opting out," and "turning things off"...matters worth a diggldee-dang-dang-dang.

Like "turning off" your stupid "Smartphone." The GD thing is still on, in the background. Only when the battery is ripped out, is the thing inert.

She should have kept her old Honda, or gotten another.

Yup.

This is what comes of trusting electronics, logic modules, wiring too sophisticated to understand...as well as the dweebs who design them, install them, hack them as a hobby. They can't get laid, so these incels get their rocks off by sabotaging normies' cars.

How many times have we heard of hackers using electronic back-doors to steal various cars? Kia isn't the only brand. Well, I've never had a car stolen - not only do I not have an electronic alarm, I don't have a wireless gizmo - or a chipped key.

The soy-boi would have to get a wheel puller and slide hammer to pull off the lock cylinder of my Toyota truck. First, someone would have to teach him how to use those tools, and then, where to buy them.

People work hard to learn all about all this gee-whiz technology. I'm working hard to learn how NOT to need this new crap.

Hackers unlocking cars via tire sensors

Recent technological advancements have made cars smarter and more connected, but they have also introduced unexpected vulnerabilities. One such vulnerability involves hackers exploiting tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) to unlock and potentially control vehicles. Understanding how these cyber threats operate and what can be done to mitigate the risks is crucial for both manufacturers and consumers.

...where does it end?

Like the lad is sayin'...buyin' used, is no solution. It matters nought what the car HAS; what will matter is what the SUBSCRIPTIONS cost. And how much of the total package is proprietary; and how expensive will be BASIC repairs.

(Pardon me for the Scots lilt; but it takes me back. When I was a kid, our neighbor - an older Russian-American professional - had a Scots wife who never lost the accent. A very charming matron-type...)

It's really to the point where I keep thinking about mules - buying one, breeding them. I should know better. One reason why Henry's Model T took off so quickly, was that owning one was exponentially cheaper than owning or even hiring a horse.

So where does this leave us? This morning I was listening to Chris Martinson talk about how and why insurance, repair, contracting bills keep going up. Short answer? Financialization...Venture Capital firms, buying up insurance services, contractors, even HVAC contractors and veterinary practices. You want to EAT? Venture Capital...Cerberus owns Albertsons and Safeway. You want your home heating fixed, in a winter failure? Sign on the iPad...we offer FINANCING, now! It's a new service...just scroll to the bottom and click I AGREE.

What it's looking like, is that we're gonna be living like in Niger or Ethiopia...masses of homeless people milling about, defecating in the river that others are drinking from; dying of malnutrition as the desperate people eat mud.

When will it stop? CAN it stop short of our Afro-izing of the nation, of the West?

New tech makes some vehicles unhackable—others wide open

As we steer into the age of high-tech automobiles, a new facet of vehicle security has emerged—cybersecurity. Just like computers and smartphones, modern vehicles can also be susceptible to hacking, with certain models and systems being more vulnerable than others. However, innovative technology is continuously being developed to make some vehicles virtually unhackable.

Keys worked for a hundred years.

They'd work even better, now - now that schools no longer teach kids how to solve problems with tools and logic.
