I keep hearing them stress ***COMMUNICATION***. Frankly, I wonder how useful it will be.

If TSHTF quickly, and your kids/wife/parents are elsewhere...well, it's sink-or-swim time. Either you have a plan of where to meet up, or you don't. They may be spending a few days getting back from a trip that took twenty minutes Before.

Many just won't be coming back. Deal with it.

The thing is to have a focus or a plan. To the extent you can. I have food and essentials but my apartment building will quickly become untenable. Land is unobtainium, for less than Lotto winnings - and frankly, property rights won't be honored After. I can go live in my storage unit, if I have to, for some days. Not secure but likely those I find doing the same, will be of the same situation - honest people desperate for secure space.

Calling people who you can't help, who may or may not make it to where you are? Waste of energy.

Lights? I collect flashlights. I have about five broad-reflector LED lights - everything from a retrofitted Maglight, to a railroad lantern, to mini-flashlights. All with Li-I batteries. Shelf life is 10 years, longer than I'll probably be here.

I can light this place up just like the power was on, except that would be the height of stupidity.

How's it all gonna go down? That's the Million-Dollar Question.

"You'll own nothing and be happy." You sure about that, Klaus you (pejorative for alt-sexuality types)? How about, we'll own nothing, and every small town, every rural county, will be like an Indian reservation. Or like Youngstown, Ohio is. Or half of New Mexico. Everyone drunk, on meth, or duck-walking from fentanyl. Nobody with a job. Everyone living in piles of their own filth.

We are heading towards Klaustopia; but when we get there, even the Davos devotees won't like it.

That is not gonna be easy. Not for anyone so forced. The only thing worse is, not having anything.

None here. I prefer food I normally eat. Keep a lot of canned and dried food and have a well stocked deep freezer. Under extreme circumstances I could reduce my daily food intake and last a good while before running out.

That is a good plan, for those who have a stable homestead/redoubt.

For those of us who will have to move, canned goods don't do well. Dried foods are better, but still, relatively fragile (relatively) in transport.

I started out with several cases of MREs. I expected the ascendance of the Brown Clown to launch civil war. ESPECIALLY in Minnehaha, where Al Frankin's party stole that seat. I didn't think the stolid Swedes would stand for it.

They did. I didn't realize how cucked they were - I was new there, just arrived a few months earlier, a new job.

I didn't realize how much abuse this nation would take - is still taking. But anyway, I ate most of those MREs - nasty, but useful on motorcycle back-country trips - but even now, rotating is an issue. I have one 40-meal box left. I used all mine LONG past the seven-year expiry date, but they were all just fine. As nasty as intended.

My current stock is, commercial freeze-dried food. Stable storage for longer than I have to live. BUT...making them into food, requires clean WATER. Another issue...

That kinda hits me...not the vid but the subject. Power generator.

I just sold mine. Sold it because it was running like crap, after sitting around for two years after my RV was wrecked (I recovered it from the wreck, and it ran okay later; but...sitting around.

I could have fixed it. Spent $100 on a carb-rebuilding kit, done it - and learned something, and the problem would be over. For the time. But...the problem of rotgut E15 gasoline, and of maintenance - an oil change is a nuisance when you don't own your own shop or garage - and, where the hell would I use it when I needed it?

That last, led me to looking up a propane-conversion kit. Such a thing WAS made - not by Honda, but by some Chinese company - but it is out of stock, been out of stock for several years. Honda does not sell them; does not support conversions. They don't believe in using propane, I guess.

Well, for JUST another $2k, I could buy a new generator, one of the Chinese brands, a dual-fuel. Maybe it would be good, but not as good as a Honda. And I'd still have the where-do-I run-it problems. I could run it inside, with propane as a fuel (crude makeshift exhaust outside; heat stays inside) but the ones I saw were twice as big as my small inverter-generator.

Bottom line is, it isn't practical for me, living in an apartment. I have a battery-inverter, large capacity - I can charge that off an inverter wired to my car. I have THAT.

In any event, if the power goes down for good, I'll have to leave here. There will be no heat or water services; there isn't room to set up a biffy in the yard, and there will be a lot of dead bodies. We're a 60-plus apartment house.

Lot of hungry people, too. Nice people, in normal times. If I share with all of them, I'm out of food in a week.

So it shows a lot of flaws in my survival plans. More to it than having a SHTF bugout-bag - I have that but cannot carry it on my back - and the lack of power won't matter after a few days.

The situation will then resolve itself in a couple of months, say some experts. The zombies disappear. The weak ones die. Lots of vacant homes....it'll just be about surviving those two months. And I'm not getting any answers, and a EOTWAWKI escape truck isn't the answer, either.
 

I'm hoping things never come down to me bugging out. I'm too old for something like that. And I think if things ever did come down to that a whole lotta people would go bonkers. Wouldn't be safe for anyone on the road.
