Florida man robs $7K worth of lottery scratch-offs from convenience store, goes back to redeem winners, feds say​

A Florida man stole $7,000 worth of scratch-off lottery tickets from a gas station convenience store, then returned to the very same location less than two hours later and attempted – unsuccessfully – to cash in his winners, according to a probable cause affidavit reviewed by The Independent.

After equally unsuccessful second and third tries, suspect Justin Farley, 43, instead used a replica handgun to rob a nearby 7-Eleven, making off with $120 and a pack of Newport cigarettes, the affidavit states.

Under questioning by police, Farley allegedly confessed, telling officers that he simply “needed money.”

Farley is now facing one count of interference with commerce by threat or violence, a federal charge under the Hobbs Act, which prohibits “robbery or extortion” affecting interstate trade. He was indicted by a Tampa grand jury while already in custody on state charges over the same robbery spree, and was charged federally on Tuesday, court records show.

US woman who ‘rescued’ four chickens found guilty of trespassing and conspiracy​

A San Francisco Bay Area woman has been found guilty of trespassing and conspiracy after she took four chickens from a processing plant in northern California, a spokesperson for a group representing her said.

Zoe Rosenberg, 23, did not deny taking the animals but said she was rescuing them from a cruel situation. She faces more than five years in prison. Rosenberg and her attorneys had said they would appeal if she was found guilty, said Lauren Gazzola, spokesperson for Animal Activist Legal Defense Project.

US congresswoman suggests ‘fallen angels’ could be responsible for UFOs​

The American politician known for embracing conspiracies, Marjorie Taylor Greene, has made more bizarre remarks during a guest appearance on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher.

The Republican US House member said she believes in demons, suggesting they could be aliens who fell from heaven. She also admitted she didn’t realize key figures in the antisemitic space lasers conspiracy she promoted were Jewish.

Greene has gained unexpected support from some Democrats, who previously opposed her, after she broke with Republicans on several issues.
