Companies that paid President Trump’s sweeping global tariffs are starting to get their money back. The next question: What to do with the refunds?

Some businesses are preparing to pass along the refunds to their customers, sometimes a complicated process. Others plan to use the refunds to offset tariff costs they had to absorb or to invest in their business: An art supply company is planning to pay down a credit line. A flowerpot importer expects to replenish its inventory.

Trump tariff ruling gives automakers relief without fixing the bigger problem​

One of the latest developments in the Trump administration’s tariff push is the possibility of raising import duties on European cars from 15% to 25%, a move that could severely affect brands without U.S. manufacturing, including Audi. But while tariff debates continue, a federal trade court has blocked the administration’s new 10% global tariffs, ruling them unlawful, according to Automotive News.

For context, the new tariffs do not apply to imported cars and auto parts, which are already subject to separate duties under Section 232. The fresh 10% tariffs, imposed under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, were introduced in February 2026 after the Supreme Court ruled the administration’s International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA)-based tariffs illegal. For now, the court’s block applies only to the two companies that sued and the state of Washington.

Trump threatens the Supreme Court after 6-3 majority ruling deeming his tariffs illegal​

President Donald Trump attacked two of his own Supreme Court appointees in a Truth Social post, after Justices Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett joined a 6-3 majority striking down his tariff agenda as unconstitutional.

Trump wrote, he "loves" Gorsuch but criticized his vote as "devastating" and "hurtful to our Country," while expressing similar frustration with Barrett, emphasizing they "have hurt our Country so badly."

Trump then floated the idea of court packing — a move Republicans spent years opposing when Democrats proposed it — "In fact, I should be the one wanting to PACK THE COURT! I’m working so hard to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN."

China renews, then halts licenses for hundreds of US beef exporters amid Trump-Xi summit​

BEIJING, May 14 (Reuters) - Chinese customs appeared to have halted export clearances for hundreds of U.S. beef plants on Thursday, hours after Reuters reported the long-awaited licenses had been approved amid a summit between the U.S. and Chinese presidents in Beijing.

More than 400 U.S. beef plants lost export eligibility over the past year as Beijing's permissions, granted between March 2020 and April 2021, lapsed without the customary renewal, accounting for roughly 65% of the once-registered facilities.

Opinion: Trump is trying to get permanent trade war powers​

On May 12, the Department of Justice urged the Supreme Court not to hear the case HMTX Industries v. U.S. The administration’s brief reveals a view of presidential tariff authority with almost no meaningful limiting principle.

The Supreme Court should take the case and make clear that Section 301 of the 1974 Trade Act is not a blank check for perpetual tariff escalation.

Trump has created a ‘trickle up’ tariff economy that means US companies aren’t done hiking consumer prices over import taxes​

President Donald Trump isn’t done implementing this tariff policy, and U.S. companies aren’t done raising prices in response.

Businesses are still adjusting prices to account for levies and the ongoing uncertainty surrounding them, the Federal Reserve of New York said in a post published on Wednesday. Citing recent regional business surveys, the New York Fed found that 47% of service firms are planning more tariff price increases, including 31% within the next six months and 44% of manufacturers plan to hike prices, including 37% in the next six months.

Hiltzik: While Trump declares that US is enjoying 'best economy ever,' manufacturing jobs have been disappearing​

Based on the words of President Trump, America is well on the way to becoming a “global superpower in manufacturing” — indeed, as he declared in a Father’s Day social media post, we are already experiencing the “BEST ECONOMY EVER.” (Capitalization’s his.)

Here’s what the government’s own statistics tell us: Manufacturing investment has crashed during his watch, with construction spending in the manufacturing sector down 26.4% from Trump’s inauguration through May, to $174.8 billion. That’s the lowest figure since February 2023, when the economy was in the midst of a post-pandemic recovery.

White House spokesman Kush Desai told me by email that “the last two jobs reports” showed manufacturing job growth. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a seasonally-adjusted decline of 2,000 manufacturing workers in May and a gain of 3,000 in June. But the June 2026 figure was 38,000 jobs, or about 0.3% below the level in June 2025, and 75,000 or about 0.6% below the level in January 2025, when Trump took office.

US slaps Brazil with 25% tariffs, and dozens of other countries are in the crosshairs​

The U.S. is imposing 25% tariffs on certain Brazilian goods next Wednesday, just two days before a temporary, global 10% duty is set to expire.

The Brazil tariffs, which exclude items like high-quality beef cuts, coffee, and yellowfin tuna, were imposed under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, and follow a yearlong investigation into what officials described as Brazil’s unfair trade practices.

The U.S. trade representative’s office announced the move late Wednesday. The Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump’s sweeping global levies in February; shortly after, Trump imposed the temporary tariff, which is scheduled to end next Friday.

What do we get from Canada? As far as I know, it is crappy oil from Alberta, wood products, and booze. I have no problem with these coming to the US. I think they should send more of those three without duties.

Fires in Canada are sending smoke our way. That sucks, but why don't the government assholes send lumber companies to harvest the wood before it burns down to smoke?!

Canada has a lot of people who are too lazy or stupid to harvest lumber or extract oil or mineral resources. Maybe they could give those shits a choice of getting to work or going forcibly to Prince Edward Island to bait hooks or entertain the locals.
 
That's a new thing. A generation ago, and all throughout history, they were very industrious, civil and law-abiding. Their cities showed it. Toronto was a truly appealing place to be, even into the 1990s. Now, of course, it's one moar Organized schitte-hole with simians chimping out and killing humans everywhere.

Had history been a little different - as in, the "Civil Rights" assault on law and order, not play out as it did...had we kept our own law, order, and working school systems...reunification with the North would have made a lot of sense.

Trump imposes forced labor duties on 60 trading partners​

WASHINGTON, July 24 (Reuters) - The Trump administration on Friday imposed new tariffs of 10% and 12.5% on goods from 60 trading partners, including Europe and China, over allegations of lax enforcement of forced labor bans, just as a temporary 10% global tariff expired.

The move is the White House's latest effort to restore President Donald Trump's vision of a near-global tariff after the U.S. Supreme Court in February struck down his "reciprocal" duties of 10% to 50% imposed under a national emergencies law to try to shrink the U.S. trade deficit.

New tariffs had been expected, but trade partners around the world joined in strongly disputing the justification for them. Some, however, noted they would make little difference to current levies. There was little early reaction on financial markets more focused on the Middle East conflict.
