Treasury weighs minting $1 coin with Trump’s face for U.S. 250th anniversary​

  • The Treasury Department is considering minting a $1 coin bearing President Donald Trump’s likeness on both sides.
  • A first draft of that coin shows Trump’s head in profile on one side, above the words “IN GOD WE TRUST” and the dates 1776 and 2026.

The Treasury Department is considering minting a $1 coin bearing President Donald Trump’s likeness on both sides to honor him and commemorate the United States’ 250th birthday next year.

A first draft of that coin, which will mark the semiquincentennial anniversary of the nation’s founding, depicts Trump’s head in profile on one side, above the words “IN GOD WE TRUST” and the dates 1776 and 2026.

The other side of the coin mirrors a widely viewed photo taken of Trump in the moments after he survived an assassination attempt at a 2024 presidential campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

I thought there was a law, no living person's image was to be placed on coins.
 
I think a two-faced coin would be pretty unusual, maybe unique.
Has anyone seen a two-faced coin in circulation anywhere?
 
Let's see,
1. the article appeared on cnbc.
2.The last sentence in the article says "A Treasury spokesperson told CNBC that a final design for a $1 coin to commemorate the anniversary has not yet been selected."

Sounds like satire.

George Washington is on both sides of 2021 Quarters.

Edited to add: it's prolly the best looking Quarter they've made in years.

Amazing as you have to be dead to be on a coin, I wonder what they aren't telling us...Federal law prohibits any living person's face from appearing on U.S. currency, but beyond that the exact criteria for deciding who appears on our paper currency is unclear. The Treasury Department says only that it considers "persons whose places in history the American people know well."May 11, 2025
 
It would need to be a medal not a coin. Do it and then make another one of liberal heads exploding
