I wonder if any of the small timers actually understood what a meme coin really is.

Small-time Trump coin buyers have seen their investments collapse

Nearly 67,000 crypto novices have pulled out their debit cards to bet on Trump’s meme coin venture, a Post analysis found. So far it’s been a monumental bust.

Rebecca Davis bought President Donald Trump’s meme coin while lying in bed one January morning in Little Rock, scrolling through photos of a glitzy Trump inauguration gala called the “Crypto Ball.” The host of a local conservative radio show, she knew nothing about cryptocurrency but believed in Trump’s business savvy. He “kind of knows how to make money,” she said.

Her $TRUMP coin’s value climbed for a few days but has since plunged 85 percent from its peak. Though some coin holders, including Trump’s allies, have profited handsomely on paper from the coin, she is not one of them; her $32 investment is now worth about $11.

“There was definitely a lot of influential people that had posted online about it that got me hyped up,” she said. “Then when it tanked, I was like, ‘Whoa, what the hell?’”

Trump to hold gala for investors in his meme coin, as critics slam it as pay-for-play

Hundreds of the top investors in President Donald Trump's cryptocurrency meme coin will descend on Washington Thursday for an exclusive black-tie dinner with the president -- what some critics are condemning as a brazen pay-for-play event meant to enrich the most powerful man in the world.

Two hundred and twenty cryptocurrency traders, including many from overseas, pumped tens of millions of dollars into Trump's meme coin to gain admission to the gala through a contest that awarded invitations to the top investors -- with at least some of the funds flowing directly into the Trump family's coffers.

Promoted on the coin's website as the "most EXCLUSIVE INVITATION in the world," the glitzy affair at Trump's private golf club in Northern Virginia Thursday night is expected to be headlined by the president himself.

Critics of the gala, including some Republican lawmakers and cryptocurrency industry advocates, have lambasted the arrangement as an opportunity for the president and his family to improperly benefit personally from his position of power.
