UK backs Rolls-Royce project to build a nuclear reactor on the moon

UPDATED FRI, MAR 17 202311:40 AM EDT

  • “Nuclear power has the potential to dramatically increase the duration of future Lunar missions and their scientific value,” UK Space Agency says.
  • Rolls-Royce has been working on a Micro-Reactor program “to develop technology that will provide power needed for humans to live and work on the Moon.”
  • The UKSA will now provide £2.9 million (around $3.52 million) of funding for the project.

Weird. How would it work? AFAIK, existing nuclear reactors here on 🌎 need lots of water to cool the rods.

They need a new Starbuck's in the Sea of Tranquility.

first thing we gotta all do is get down on our knees and pray to god, just pray, that all of that nuclear material they're gonna need makes it safely off of this planet and at least make it into space

if that stuff blows up during the launch sequence, there's plenty of opportunity for those near the launch facility to soon gather up their own nuclear material directly from the ground...just sitting there, already processed

fools and our lives may soon meet one another and guess who's got the army behind them?
