Corporate America has suddenly decided to stop blowing money on AI​

Companies across the country are coming around to a radical idea with the potential to upend the industry powering the global economy: They don’t have to blow their budgets on AI.

Fed up with ballooning costs, companies big and small are starting to use lower-priced models, including some built in China. In many cases, they are adding the new, cheaper models alongside OpenAI and Anthropic’s products, shopping a la carte for their artificial intelligence.

Apparently Peco is the name of a utility company in Pennslyvania.
....and Bill is the guy they send to their customers to tells 'em how much they owe Peco.

It's an electric / gas bill people in my part of the state get.

My bill for June was 161.83 =
- electric 109.67
- gas 52.16

My new bill is about 30.00 higher. Probably due to the A/C. It was pretty hot here during that time period.

Come winter my bills will get higher due to gas. Heater, hot water heater, stove are all natural gas. I like the house warm in winter and I use the oven a lot.

If you look at the Flock cameras, this AI stuff, ICE, along with other stuff (dyodd) and put them in a jar, shake the jar up and pour it out you may have the makings of an orwellian dystopia.

ICE doesn't have anything to do with that. All they are doing is trying to enforce the laws that have been on the books for decades, and that no one ever used to complain about them doing.

Saw that too and was gonna post it, but you beat me to it.

Imo, it's kinda f'ed up for them to be doing that. Especially when most books are already in digital format. There's no real need for them to destroy actual books to do that.

That's good news.

There's also Terafab being built here. Will be a 100,000,000 sqft facility. That's the equivalent of a square, one story building that's 1.9 miles on a side.
.....and one of the reasons given for building it here, is the tariffs.
 
That's what we need, is moar monopoly. As if we don't have enough, with all this proprietary computer crap in new cars.

And Jalopnik, the online car magazine staffed by people who hate cars (some, in the past, were found never to have had licenses)...they reveal their REAL love. GUBBERMINT REGULATION AND ORDERS.
 
I had no idea this AI stuff had developed like this:

You can set up AI agents to automate just about any computer task that a human would do (processing emails & generating replies, updating spreadsheets, managing online banking or trading accounts, etc.).
 
It's mental illness.

WHILE they destroy our money, and attack the auto industry and compromise the quality of fuel for personal transportation (E-20)...making American mass-marketing logistically impossible...WHILE they destroy the convenience-food industry, and price all manner of restaurant meals out of the average person's budget...they're gonna spend BILLIONS on TRACKING the consumers they're destroying.

It is not gonna MATTER. That information is gonna soon be as useless as details about typewriter purchasers.

Flocking surveillance cameras soon will only be tracking the Elites, because they will be the only group still able to afford auto purchases. Even allowing the commercial misuse of that data, the target group is gonna be so small, as the collapse unfolds, there won't be any benefit to their "knowing."

You don't see surveillance cameras popping up in Mogadishu or Port-au-Prince, do you.

I look at the insane, deliberate mis-engineering in modern cars - virtually all brands - this goes beyond safety requirements, such things as transmissions with dipsticks that are unusable for their location, not accessable without a lift...these EXPENSIVE products designed NOT to deliver value...and then I read how DEI and Wokeness is still alive-and-well in corporate C-Suites...and all I can think is, it's lethal Mass Formation psychosis.

Rush headlong on a fool's errand, and come to a fool's end.

They SO WANT this AI dystopia to play out...they want money machines that mine the economy without their doing a lick of effort, or even paying employees to do basic tasks. THAT's what this is all about - now, having Outsourced all the assembly, and now, design and engineering tasks...reducing manufacturers to drop-shippers, owners of trademark brands...now they want to clear the decks of middle-management, TOO.

This, was the pot 'o gold at the end of the rainbow. Except you never get there; and the journey is turning out to have significant cost.
