Cuba says it killed 4 people on boat from Florida who opened fire

Cuba's coastguard killed four people on a speedboat from Florida who opened fire off the Cuban coast on Wednesday, the interior ministry in Havana said.

The ship was one nautical mile northeast of the El Pino canal in Cayo Falcones, the ministry said in a statement. When five members of the Border Guard Troops approached the boat for identification, those aboard the speedboat allegedly began shooting. The commander of the Cuban boat was injured, the ministry said.

They should have sunk the boat. Cuban government has a right not to be screwed with.

Family member of American killed by Cuban forces in boat shootout says he was on 'diabolical' mission

The brother of an American citizen killed in a brazen boat clash with Cuban forces says his sibling was consumed by an "obsessive and diabolical" push to free the island, and that "no one knew" what he was planning.

American citizen Michel Ortega Casanova, who worked as a truck driver, was one of 10 passengers on a Florida-registered boat that allegedly opened fire on Cuban soldiers in an attempt to infiltrate the island.

Cuba could become US territory. I never thought of that but that would be a very good outcome.

President Donald Trump floats 'friendly takeover' of Cuba

President Donald Trump said there could be a "friendly takeover of Cuba," though did not go into specifics, while taking questions from reporters while departing the White House on Friday.

The comment came after being asked about a deadly confrontation off the coast of Cuba on Wednesday, in which Cuban officials said people on a U.S.-registered speedboat fired upon Cuban border troops in an alleged attempt to "carry out an infiltration for terrorist purposes."

Asked what he thought the boat was doing in Cuba and if he believed the Cuban government's telling of events, Trump responded, "The Cuban government is talking with us. They're in a big deal of trouble, as you know. They have no money, they have no anything right now. But they're talking with us."

Cuba admits to having 'secret' talks with White House after weeks of Trump takeover threats

Cuba has admitted to holding “secret” meetings with the Trump administration after weeks of the president threatening to undertake a “friendly takeover” of the island nation.

The meetings came as Cuba grapples with a devastating fuel shortage and an “unstable” power grid, The New York Times reported on Friday.

Life has greatly changed since the Cubans had their revolution, the literacy rate is 100%, there is no sticking another tin pot dictatorship in office...might be time to go into exile in Spain and drink margaritas in the sunset knowing freedom for Cubans has been assured.

What could happen is Raul Castro will remain as a resident. He should develop his own rum and have a podcast. The rest of the government gets immunity. Marco Rubio will run it like Mac Arthur.

I would definitely spend some retirement there. I am already in Miami which some parts are like Havana. I would bug out during the summer and head for the mountains in Panama to escape the heat.

No dictator for Cuba, no more Mafia or Jewish gangsters like Meyer Lansky...just freedom and capitalism. That was always the problem, the gangsters wanted to go back to child brothels and crooked casinos.

Would love to see a peaceful transition there. The Cuban people don't hate Americans. Not fond of our government but who is?

We would all of us...not in gubbermint...love to see peace.

But the Deep State, and their co-opted pawns in elected office, don't want that. They need WORLD WAR, to hide their crimes and Depopulate.

As for Cuba...we're on the cusp of a civil war, right here. I think Cuba is about a zero on our real list of priorities.

I wish them well, but I think the next 20 years belong to the Statists, Marxists, and despots who've been waiting for their main chance.

Those are the old guys, many of us look like that nowadays....I guess I should get some liposuction done.
My thoughts exactly. That almost looks like the family gallery...all the fathers of young conscripts being given awards.

Wood gasification was popular during WWII, also methane/propane convertible.
It didn't work well then - which is why the "technology" disappeared with the end of the war.

Likewise, now.

Long time ago (pre-InterwebZ) I saw photos and a write-up of an early VW Type 1 (later named Beetle) converted to wood-gasification for use in wartime Germany. Where the trunk would be, the nose, the firebox/vaporizer/boiler was. Stuck out like some sort of Steampunk movie-prop.

Anyone who's had to burn brush a lot, knows that's a smoky, smelly way to get energy.

Agreed, you notice trains no longer burn coal or wood, but in a pinch, we could start...

Figure 15 years. First to open the coal mines; then to put in the coal elevators, build up the coal-car inventory, just to handle what the railroads would need. And, home-heating? Forget it. Homes with only a flue for gas furnaces, would need a chimney and a huge firebox for a furnace.

Wood? That didn't work very well even in the 1870s, when steamboats were just coming into their own and railroads were something of a fringe novelty. You could put a team to work around the clock for a month, to cut wood one rail line would use in a couple of days.

Thermal efficiency on steam locomotives was about 5 percent, IIRC. Compared with a 30-percent efficiency out of a diesel engine, which is a plateau engineers cannot break, now.
