In this video, I look back at the largely forgotten financial crisis of 1914, when the outbreak of World War I brought the City of London to a virtual standstill. The London Stock Exchange closed for five months, banks temporarily shut their doors, interest rates surged and people rushed to obtain physical gold.
Could something similar happen today if geopolitical tensions escalated into a wider war? I examine what history can teach us about protecting savings, maintaining access to wealth and why holding some physical gold and silver outside the financial system could provide valuable insurance during a serious crisis.
