But we don't get very much, if any oil from through the Strait.

Or are you saying we should just take it from there?

Maybe what we need is export ban on diesel.
Liquid petroleum is fungible.

A shortage, from any cutoff of any significant supply, affects world prices. That's market pricing.

An export ban should be explored - by that I mean, war-gamed through. There will be massive moves to counter it. How? Black market? Divert some through pipelines to **OUR FRIENDS** in Canukistan, to then off-load to no-brand VLCCs to ship? Will a ban just enrich moar Soros-type players?

What would the price BE, in an isolated market? We get into command-and-control pricing - which history shows, never works.

These are questions that should be answered, but, we know, won't be.

Export ban would be dumb. I only posted that to see if he'd think it a good idea due to the complaint being the higher price. Same with asking if we should just take it.

All we've heard is how we supposedly steal it anyways.

Yeah I thought that was a dumb idea when the republican politicians suggested it too..
President Donald Trump and several U.S. lawmakers have backed or proposed temporary export bans on diesel and petroleum products amid record-high fuel prices surpassing $6.50 per gallon driven by global conflicts involving Iran and Russia. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Key Politicians and Proposals
    • President Donald Trump: Expressed support for a temporary diesel export ban to trap domestic supplies inside the U.S. and lower prices at the pump ahead of the midterm elections. [1, 2, 3]
    • Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN): Introduced legislation on September 15, 2026, proposing an outright diesel export ban through January 2027, or a trigger-based ban activated when prices hit $5 per gallon. [1]
    • Rep. Clay Fuller (R-GA): Cosponsoring Rep. Burchett's diesel export ban legislation. [1]
    • Gov. Jeff Landry (R-LA): Backed a 90-day diesel export ban on September 17, 2026. [1]
    • Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) & Farm-State Republicans: Supporting the export restrictions to relieve financial pressure on agricultural workers. [1, 2]
    • Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA): Introduced the Stop Oil Exports to Lower Gas Prices Act on May 7, 2026, targeting a halt to crude oil exports during the Iran conflict. [1]

    • Only idiot politicians back it.
