This is a 12-minute vid where Thom Hartman talks about neoliberalism, a lack of jobs and makes a case for a UBI.

We KNOW How to End 40 Years of Neoliberalism!!

Aug 14, 2023

Neoliberalism has ended the American dream for millions. Union membership is down. Worker’s rights are continually being eroded and civil rights are all but a thing of the past. Help is on the way! A promising new study shows neoliberalism CAN be defeated!! How?? Wait til you see THIS!

I would accept UBI of $1500/month paid in gold certificates.

Separate money from work...and money becomes worthless and work becomes a fool's pastime.

We already saw that play out with the Scamdemic. Did we learn nothing?

Thom's has some more to say.....................

How Can Poverty Be Fixed? We Already Know

10:00

American oligarchs have always known that their “warnings” about making people “dependent on government” and/or “lazy” were scams. With new Universal Basic Income (UBI) experiments, cities across America (and around the world) are proving how wrong the old Republican canard really is. Let’s put it to bed once & for all and start working out innovative ways for government to help low-income working people rise above poverty.

Okay.

Let's just deny reality. Our experience with "welfare" for example.

Give people money without work, and they become dependent on the money and unwilling to work. That's all.

I guess we're going to go right into the cesspool of monetary collapse, denying obvious, proven reality to the end.

And giving money without productive effort to earn it, simply inflates the currency.

In a system that is stable, money is "stored work units." You work all week, get paid money, and take that money to the grocer. Paying for the eggs and hamburger, is the buyer's way of answering the question: "How have you served, that you deserve this food?"

Money without work is a claim on those eggs and ham, with no effort put in. What happens is more money chasing the same, or even less, foodstuffs (or whatever) and prices rise.

And then the same idiots will bleat about "greedy grocers." Because economic illiteracy is now nearly-universal, also.

For folks who prefer to read, there is a write up on Thom's website. I was curious what Thom meant about "new Universal Basic Income (UBI) experiments" and found this:
...
In Denver, a program of $1,000/month cash grants has measurably reduced homelessness, gotten people jobs, and improved the mental health of its participants. A Stockton, California program that passed out $500/month checks saw unemployment go from 12% to 8% among recipients; the control group that got no money saw their unemployment rise to 15%.

FWIW (dyodd)

$750 a month was given to homeless people in California. What they spent it on is more evidence that universal basic income works.

  • What happens when homeless people are given $750 per month for a year?
  • A study found they were less likely to remain unsheltered and closer to having their basic needs met.
  • The initial results of the first six months of the study show the effectiveness of a basic income plan.
A group of just over 100 homeless people in California's Los Angeles County and San Francisco Bay Area were given $750 per month for a year — no questions asked.

The newly released results of the first six months of the study into the impact of a basic income and social support intervention reveal what the recipients spent the influx of cash.

Just like welfare worked.

...which is the same damn thing. That different outcomes are heralded, calls into question the honesty of the propagandist journalist.
