US-flagged SLNC York Flooding and Abandoned in the Pacific Ocean

The SLNC York, a general cargo ship, experienced catastrophic flooding on its voyage from Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, to Naha, Okinawa. The primary cause appears to be a major failure of the shaft seal, leading to significant water intake in the engine room and machinery spaces.

⚓️Vessel Details: The SLNC York is a 2010-built vessel operated by Schuyler Line Navigation Company. It is configured for heavy lift, containers, and roll-on/roll-off cargo, with a gross tonnage of approximately 12,679 tons.
⚓Rescue Mission: Following a distress call, the Hong Kong-flagged LPG carrier Pacific Yantai diverted its course to rendezvous with the SLNC York. The crew of the SLNC York successfully abandoned ship and was safely picked up by the Pacific Yantai.
⚓Current Status: As of the latest reports in the video, the SLNC York is adrift and not under command in the western Pacific. The crew is being transported to Korea.
⚓Technical Analysis: Visual analysis of the flooding from onboard videos, highlighting the water entering through the shaft seal and flooding the engine compartment deck plates. Discussion about the vessel's stability, noting that it was sailing in ballast at the time of the incident.
