US-flagged SLNC York Flooding and Abandoned in the Pacific Ocean

The SLNC York, a general cargo ship, experienced catastrophic flooding on its voyage from Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, to Naha, Okinawa. The primary cause appears to be a major failure of the shaft seal, leading to significant water intake in the engine room and machinery spaces.

⚓️Vessel Details: The SLNC York is a 2010-built vessel operated by Schuyler Line Navigation Company. It is configured for heavy lift, containers, and roll-on/roll-off cargo, with a gross tonnage of approximately 12,679 tons.
⚓Rescue Mission: Following a distress call, the Hong Kong-flagged LPG carrier Pacific Yantai diverted its course to rendezvous with the SLNC York. The crew of the SLNC York successfully abandoned ship and was safely picked up by the Pacific Yantai.
⚓Current Status: As of the latest reports in the video, the SLNC York is adrift and not under command in the western Pacific. The crew is being transported to Korea.
⚓Technical Analysis: Visual analysis of the flooding from onboard videos, highlighting the water entering through the shaft seal and flooding the engine compartment deck plates. Discussion about the vessel's stability, noting that it was sailing in ballast at the time of the incident.

I Just Got PROMOTED to Run a 300-Meter Cargo Ship (It’s HEAVY)

Sep 10, 2026 #episode1 #LifeAtSea #Promotion
Ten years at sea. And today I board a ship as Chief Officer for the first time in my life.
The Chief Officer runs everything above the waterline - the cargo, the deck, the crew, the stability of a 300-metre vessel carrying thousands of containers. Get a calculation wrong and the consequences are real. I have never done this job before.
This is Season 6. It starts in Tangier, Morocco. And I'll be honest with you - I am nervous.

We Thought They Were Pirates! The Real Dangers of Sailing Around the World

Oct 21, 2026 The Sailing Doodles Podcast
How dangerous is it really to sail around the world? Are pirates something sailors should actually worry about?
While sailing through Indonesia, we stopped at a tiny, remote atoll hundreds of miles from civilization. Just as we were preparing to leave, a wooden boat carrying six men headed straight toward us. With only me and two women aboard, we had no idea what they wanted. What happened next was something I'll never forget!
In this episode of The Bobby White Podcast, I share the incredible story of that encounter, complete with original footage, and discuss the real dangers of piracy while cruising.
I also share the terrifying story of a father and son who were attacked and robbed aboard their catamaran in Brazil, discuss the tragic murder of an American sailing couple in the Caribbean, and give my thoughts on dangerous cruising destinations and whether carrying a gun aboard is a good idea.
Is sailing around the world actually dangerous, or is the fear of pirates mostly overblown?
