I discovered this project yesterday and I'm still learning about it.
Tari is a revolutionary blockchain project developed by former Monero contributors, designed to prioritize privacy, accessibility, and sustainability. With its innovative mining model, dual-token system, and user-friendly tools, Tari aims to create a thriving ecosystem for both technical and non-technical users. This article delves into Tari’s standout features, including its proof-of-work mining model, tokenomics, and the Tari Universe app.

You can download the Tari software (for Windows, Apple or Linux) from their website:

It's very simple to install and the default configurations have you up and running as soon as you launch the software. My AVG anti-virus quarantined the software with a warning that it was a trojan (malware) application, but I told AVG that was a false positive and to restore the software with an exception and it's been running on one of my computers since last night. I also have the Theta EdgeNode software running on this machine and they both appear to be playing nice together (no problems/conflicts).

This mining software lets you configure how much of your CPU and GPU (individually) resources you want to let the app use. In the ~12 hours that this has been running on my machine, with a setting of 25% CPU and 25% GPU usage, I've earned 0.1447 XTM on the CPU mining and nothing on the GPU mining. It doesn't seem like much to be honest, but I'm still playing around with it (and my hardware is not the latest, top of the line stuff either).

This morning I upped the CPU/GPU resource usage to 50% and by mid-day, it had not mined any XTM. I opened the Windows Task Manager and saw that the CPU was running 98% - 100% with all the background processes and such. I lowered the Tari CPU/GPU usage to 40% and Windows Task Manager showed CPU usage maxing out around 80%. I think the 50% level was too much and causing the computer to load and unload the process as the CPU hit overload. After the change to 40% usage, I started getting XTM mined on a fairly consistent basis. It's currently at ~0.44 XTM for the day (for the last 7 hours or so since I switched to 40%).

I still haven't seen any XTM mined with the GPU. Maybe it needs a higher end graphic card to be successful.

I've fiddled around with the Tari Universe software and believe the following to be true:
  • Every time you change a setting that affects the mining activity, it resets the mining activity back to zero. The activity/session, not your wallet balance.
  • It takes about 24-48 hours for a mining session to mature and start earning steady rewards. Within the first 24-48 hours, mining rewards will be sporadic or non-existent.
  • I have not yet been patient enough to allow the GPU mining to mature (if that is the issue). I have it disabled currently as it never earned any XTM at all. I'm assuming my GPU is just too wimpy. My CPU on the other hand, is doing fine even with a low resource setting (30 or 35 percent).
  • Once you surpass the threshold for earning 2 XTM, the software will transfer your earned XTM to your wallet on it's own (you don't have to manually claim it).
The software will force you to save your seed phrase (master password for the wallet) the first time it transfers your mining rewards to the wallet. Do not skip over this part. It's important. You can use the button provided to copy the seed phrase to the clipboard and then paste the seed phrase into a Notepad/Wordpad document which you can then save somewhere (don't lose the hard drive / thumb drive to a landfill like that Bitcoin guy!).
